Does anyone know the story behind this? It seems it disappeared just after getting a boost in corporate sponsorship. It's too bad it's gone - I liked it.

It was a podcast about basses and bass players done by Dave Burgess, our Australian alembic companion. It ran for about 35 episodes, and then stopped suddenly shortly after it picked up sponsorship from Lakland, about a year and a half ago. It was great while it lasted, and it disappeared without explanation.

I understand your concern then - especially after picking up sponsorship.

Sponosrship or not sometimes having a job, family and life itself can consume alot of time and suddenly a person finds themselves in a position where self preservation dictates the need to shed a few 'distractions' in their lives . . .

uhh Robert - that was bassCAST not CAT. :-D

Whoops! I need new glasses now that I'm getting up there in age. I always did like that cartoon of Tom playing the bass.

Although given a typical domestic cats size, (no... not the marbles) I bet he's playing a cello....

I really loved Tom and Jerry during my childhood.
Espicially now since I have been playing the Double Bass over 20 yrs now. What I really would like is to get a poster size copy of this photo of Tom playing that bass. In addition, I'd like to get a poster size photo of Curly (The three Stooges) playing the Double Bass too! I remember seeing him play it on one of the Stooges movies. Anybody have any suggestions on how to obtain these photos?

Okay. I give up. I like Tom and Jerry as much as the next guy, but I really had hoped for an answer to my question.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Hank,
Sorry for all the thread derailings... Have you tried contacting Dave Burgess directly? I believe he's affiliated with the Aussie store Bass People.

Sorry to be a bit late to the party...

Like the Norwegian Blue, Basscast is not dead - just sleeping.

I stopped doing the show around the time I opened Bass People. Juggling another business, family, etc and new retail venture just meant that I didn't have time to research, record, edit and promote Basscast. My plan has always been that it will return in some form.

It has been great to receive ongoing feedback from fans. Who knows - 2010 might be the year...

Having a bit of time off over Christmas/NY and being an inveterate music geek, I have been analysing 1001 Albums You Must Here Before You Die at

Any comments, questions or feedback from Alembicians would be welcome.

Thanks for the update, Dave. I enjoyed the 'cast tremendously. I look forward to it whenever it returns.

Happy New Year and all the best to the Bass People people.
