Pete Sears is one helluva bass player

He was always playing keyboards. Saturday night I went to the SEVA holiday benefit concert at the Throckmorton Theater in Mill Valley (wonderfully tiny venue), and saw Pete play with Moonalice and also join in with several configurations during the course of the night. While he played his usual keyboards, he also played quite a bit of bass. I was dumbfounded at how good he is on the instrument. It was a great show that included the Rowan Brothers, Peter Rowan, and David Nelson. Barry Sless played the entire night with everyone. The picture above is just what the doctor ordered. The bass he is holding was built by Doug Irwin, according to Pete. I didn't even know of it's existance until Pete told me about it between sets at a Moonalice show earlier this year. I had never seen a picture of it until now. He was sitting in with my friend's band a few years ago. My friend suffered a minor injury, and Pete offered him a couple of "aspirin." My friend ate them, and then Pete mentioned that he got the "aspirin" from his friend Owsley.
