So I'm thumbing through my latest issue of Bass Player (been a long time subscriber and am dissappointed with their current condition - but that is a story for a different time). SO they have this Bass Player Live shin dig and there are basses, amps, string, effects, etc aplenty and there are tons of pictures and they are touting the gougeous boutique instruments with highly figured hardwoods, , , and I just can't stop thinking: "Alembic would put darn near everyone of those instruments to shame in appearance alone, let alone sound" So what is the deal? Does Alembic feel that there is a better ROI on word of mouth sales than going to all of these dog and pony shows? just curious :-/ |

There may be a cost-benefit factor. It does cost quite a bit to do the bigger shows and sometimes that money could be better spent on a supply of quilted cocobolo. I always am surprised at how many bass folk have no idea about our favorite instruments. Maybe deep down that contributes to my addiction? |

I agree Danno. I doubt anyone would buy an Alembic because of a booth at a convention or an ad/story in a magazine. But that type of exposure might very well sway someone trying to decide between a Fender or an Ibanez. Players that don't know about Alembic aren't likely to purchase a boutique bass of any flavor. It's a niche market. |

In my business, I have found that it's very difficult to determine the cost/benefit (bang-for-the-buck) factor when it comes to advertising. |
