As a parallel to the "What is the best acoustic 6 string guitar for under $400" thread, I have a more specific question. Is there a more moderately priced option to a Gibson SJ 200? I love everything about that model (Super Jumbo, Spruce top, Maple back/sides); but since my guitar skills are limited, I'm really not interested in spending $3500+ on an acoustic guitar. Does the Epiphone EJ 200 even compare?

I like the Guild JF 30
it's a jumbo, has solid spruce top, maple back and sides. not sure what they are going for these days but my guess is under a grand.

Thanks spose, the Guild seems to be exactly what I was looking for. I found it for $999. Merry Xmas/Happy B'day to me!!!

The Guild was DEFINITELY the way to go. It sounds just as good as the Gibson (maybe better?) and it has an ebony fingerboard (which the Gibson doesn't). I've recorded 1 song with it... I was able to track it "flat". Thanks for the advice.

nice! congrats Mike!

I love the Guilds...I owned one of the acoustic basses I think it was a B50 with the large full body and arched back...it's the ONE I regret selling off. It was fantastic sounding...very woody and fat. I also owned for many years a beautiful JF30. They are sweet guitars.

good luck with her!!

Guilds are nice...I just got an '89 Gibson Blue Ridge, like a slope J-45 with different inlays...what a nice guitar! so now I'm REALLY close to all I'll ever need (an Orange amp, Hiwatt amp, Les Paul special, a good Gretsch...Tony
