Well, here's the rest of "Studies for Traps & Piccolo," the follow-up/companion volume to the solo piccolo record. http://www.box.net/shared/ystv06cufj Check it out! I previously posted the tracks that were solo performance pieces; the new stuff is the tracks with drums. I used my friend's Univox Super Fuzz to record these -- it was the inspiration for the sound. The playlist alternates between with drums/without drums. Rocket Science The Machineries of Joy Leroy of the Ancient World Fire Fisher Brutal Bed Tyrannosaurus Rex The Abyss/The One Who Waits Most of the titles were either taken or adapted from my sci-fi paperback collection, so it's got that kind of vibe. I just finished "The Abyss/The One Who Waits"...holy crap. Big, huge, gigantor...the sound of planets coming together. That Univox is the sound of good and evil, it's amazing... #6 - I like the tone you're using here. #7 - The intro is beautiful. The 2nd section has a very nice meditative quality. The whole song is a very inventive and effective use of the effect. #2 - I like this a lot! #4 - What is the ephemeral effect in the background? It sounds like a reverb effect; very nice. The intro to #7 is my favorite; very beautiful! (Message edited by davehouck on December 21, 2009) |

Yeah, I've been listening to that intro a lot too. It's got this nice "zing" quality, esp. when the drums come in. #4...it's the EHX Hog and some stereo reverb... that's it... Someone suggested the whole thing should be animated. Sounds like a good idea. It's so impossibly strange. I listened to all of it today, and it really seems like there's a plot, a story, in there. nice stuff, hb... i've gotten really into piccolo over the last few months (i need to record some stuff, see what you guys think), and i'm just curious as to what your set up is (strings, bass, etc). i'm really starting to feel a custom piccolo in my future... hmmm.... |

It is a converted jazz... W/ d'Addario strings.... I believe it is the long scale neck that makes it snappy like that. I actually played an Alembic piccolo bass a few years ago -- it was very different. |

hey, that's exactly what i use. my '77 jazz with d'addario's through my acoustic image. sounds great. i'm looking into getting a decent acoustic/electric for my main piccolo, though. looking at a rob allen mouse, ribbecke halfling (sp?), and a kinal kompact right now... gotta love the holidays. |

I've been up to Rob Allen's place in Santa Barbara...I always wanted to play one of those mice. |
