NASA says there may be water on the moon. So, does this discovery give your full approval for Colonization and Federalization? Should we build colonies on the Moon? Would you want to play a gig on the Moon? |

We should stop trying to control everything we can get our creepy little hands on. We should go back to 40 acres and a mule, practice husbandry of the soil, stop trying to control/ conquer everything and practice living a slower life in harmony with nature and those that are close to us. . . . in other words - Let the moon be in the sky for us to view from afar. Everytime we try to conquer/ discover/ control something the end result is us F'ing it up. (Message edited by pauldo on January 01, 2010) |

Should we build colonies on the moon? It depends on what time frame we consider. 500 years from now? Sure. Why not. Within our lifetimes may be a bit soon when we have so many other problems closer to home, so to speak. However, I support the idea that we need to fund basic scientific research that doesn't serve a defense or pharmaceutical interest. |

We (human race) cannot even be collectively peaceful on this planet let alone messing up our moon. What is the big deal with ownership of something that belongs to everyone and no-one. Colonization and Federalization has created the greatest injustices for people throughout the ages. e.g. Discovery of America (the native Americans didn't even know it was missing) British rule in India (Oppression of the masses) Captain Cook discovering Australia (The Aboriginal people knew it was there for 40,000 years) The white man came and wiped out the entire Aboriginal population of Tasmania. I could go on and on about the greed and possesive nature of so-called well meaning people that wish to instill their "civilisation" LEAVE IT ALONE (and admire it from afar) slawie |

"Should we build colonies on the Moon? Would you want to play a gig on the Moon?" Alright, the new year isn't even 24 hours old and we already have a strong nomination for most ridiculous posted question of the year! Bill TGO, (my unworthy pundit) get's personal again... You get off on trying to vilify my values and you should try to ask yourself why... If you must know, everything except about gigging, was a question-essay from my daughter's Math and Science department. Also like most things you horn in with your "wit" (or whatever else you think you have...) It comes to no surprise to again disagree with your demented, and very skewed opinions. The questions are valid, even after your attempts to turn this thread into something else. LOL! Bill, "TGO" This will be my last comment on anything you say. I leave you in peace; Live long; and may you prosper. (As a Vulcan would say...) Happy New YEAR! Peace and Love - (Message edited by the_jester on January 01, 2010) |

Austin - "attacking someone is an interesting way to "leave in peace". i'll have to try that some time." Austin, for someone to yell "ouch", when pinches by a random assailant, doesn't necessarily means they are in the predisposition, or inclination of an attacker. Should I had said nothing, when something I believe was wronged me, and still you would be in disagreement with me? Come on... now. I know there's a kinship with "Good old Bill" and it's cool. But, my comments was to Bill and for Bill alone, and I still wish him the best, as I wish for myself. So, excuse me if I am confused by you saying my message "attacked" something. I don't get it... Also, there are many people reticuled everyday, and yet they continue to love, show compassion, and still say what they'd believe without attacking. Yes, Humans can do this... i don't know hal, calling someone "unworthy" seems like an insult to me. not really comparable to "ouch". but hey, whatever. you use your words however you want, even if it's incorrectly. anyway, here's to not starting another argument with you. cheers. |

i dont get it hal makes public comments then says they're only for bill- if they were only for bill use some common sense for a change and send an email to him and not go public= when you go public people ARE going to comment on it. but i must congratulate you hal- you might be the first "person" and i use the term loosely- in here to have a problem with bill. what i will say is the thread is nonsense to begin with-your thread about what to do with an old bass was infantile and you got into it with other members- and 400 posts of stupid inane photos of your bass superimposed on everything is horseshit but am sure you find them gratifying and you're impressed with your photoshop abilities. if you have something worthwhile to say say it if not sit on your hands and bang your head against the wall. hopefully when you get your bass you'll leave the site. Austin- "calling someone "unworthy" seems like an insult to me. not really comparable to "ouch". Austin, are you saying -- I insulted Bill by saying he's unworthy for being my pundit? Perhaps I should find your favor, if I had said Bill was my worthy pundit right? Austin, I wonder if you could show the same spirit critiquing Bill's statements and share your thoughts as you done with mine? No harm in being balanced right? when you say "unworthy pundit", it comes off as calling someone out for being "an expert or opinion-leader who analyzes events in an area of expertise in the popular media" (definition of pundit) who is incapable of understanding/commenting on the things YOU have to say. that's just how it works. if you used your words in a more efficient and understandable way, maybe we wouldn't have these situations where people call you out and you get upset and we end up wasting everyone's time on an internet forum. if Bill had nearly the track record as you as far as being confrontational, i would consider being "balanced". fact is, Bill's post didn't require any kind of "spirited" response. he was kidding, and honestly, i wouldn't be surprised if you started adding some ridiculous .gifs that you've been working on involving your bass. i'm done with this, and i'm not trying to start anything negative, but i feel like someone needs to explain to you how you come off on this forum. of course, i'm sure you won't listen, and i expect your next thread within the weekend. have a good one, hal. |

Austin, I wish you peace and the best. But, I will always be different from the psyche of Bill. You'll never read where I had jumped on Bill's threads and started blasting how stupid I felt his topics were. I believe this to be a very confrontational act, and if I was to do this, I believe I would deserve a retort, and/or a re-examination of my actions. So, no worries here, because I wouldn't find it amusing, gaining a good laugh, at the cost of belittling another member. This seeds confrontation. Therefore to say I am confrontational because, I reacted out of something YOU felt was a joke and I should also read it this way too, is reprehensible for me to have this behavior. Also, how you feel, is simply how you feel. Frankly, you don't even know me well enough to know what brings laughter nor my sorrows. Never the less, Bill directed his aim (in public) at me, and not you. So, I wish you well, and I have no farther comments on this matter, and therefore unless you have any farther questions, I bid you well. PS, I allowed my daughter to read this thread, needless to say, and she was hoping to get something helpful from elders here, but some how this issues got "hated" on by Bill again. What a shame. I don't believe we should inhabit the moon at any cost. I don't believe we understand enough about what causes potential threats which may causes imbalances between our Moon, and Earth's gravitational pull. We only have one Moon, and only one Earth, so who would risk something like this without a backup AMEN, I agree -- we should leave the Moon alone period, and we should try to solve old problems, before taking on new ones. (Dave, I realize this may cross the line; if it does, I apologize to you, the Wickershams, & every club member - except one.) Hal, let me explain it to you. You are the all-time champion of personal attacks and turning threads confrontational. Your thread topics run from the nonsensical to the ridiculous. Your posts are incomprehensable babbling (and, as Austin points out with "pundit", you frequently use words you don't know the meaning of.) This is not your personal blog, and I think I speak for just about everyone when I say, could you please shut the hell up? (You have now promised to do so twice on this thread, and are averaging 2:45 between "last" posts and next ones - another of your "signatures".) Peter |

peter well done for my 2 cents- its "members" like hal that have more or less "watered" down what was once a wonderful place for bass players to come together. i got blasted by dave and some others for being too political and took a leave of absence from the site. the other main reason is people like you with nothing else to do but populate the site with self serving, ridiculous posts. if you want to throw these kind of posts start your own blog. but what i am seeing since i returned is some of the elders arent posting anymore. this is a site for serious musicians- if you CANT get with the program-LEAVE you havent created anything special with the tomahawk- we hope you like- it but it will never have the impact of kevins balance k. you;ve clogged the website with some of the most idiotic photos and posts in alembic history. maybe its fun for you=its not for us. people have been thrown off the site for being too confrontational or political but there ought to be a new category-"going hal" |

Not to mention the annoying habit of posting numerous unanswered posts in a row. It's not unusual to read 10 unanswered Hal posts in a row. It should be. No one else even comes close. Several people have already left this site because of Hal. I've been tempted, so I try to think of it this way: Hal is the exception that confirms how special this site is and how wonderful it is to hang out with all of you (not just the bass players, Flax!) Hal's behavior here is the reason that I don't come around much anymore. I suspect that's too personal, and I apologize to the fine folks at Alembic and to Dave. With regards to colonizing the moon: absolutely we should be colonizing the moon. And space. And Mars. I don't want that "pastoral life" where I die at 35. I don't want to go back to the stone age; it holds no allure. As long as we're here, I'd like technology to continue its inexorable march-- it has opened vistas of communication and openness unprecedented in human history. If we're ever to have peace on earth, it will continue to be enabled by technology. So yes, colonize the moon, and Mars, and the ocean floor. Onward, young man, onward.
