im sure this will have been discussed before but cant find it so sorry what i want to know is i have an epic with a standard polyester finish and a bubinga top do i need to oil the body or anything to maintain it i know about oiling the fingerboard with lemon oil but not sure what to do about body any help would be appreciated thanxs andrew | ||

Hi Andrew, this has been discussed somewhere but at my age remembering is a chore in itself. If I'm not mistaken Mica said not to oil the polyester finish but to use a guitar polish on it, such as the Alembic Supreme Polish. This is what I'm putting on my Epic. Other than that I just wipe it down after playing. Again I'm relying on memory here, always a tricky proposition, but isn't your Epic a '97? How is your brass looking? The brass on my '94 has dulled nicely but has a few pits in it. I guess from lack of maintenence by the previous owner or owners. I'm using the Flitz brass cleaner here. And don't even think about forgeting to post photos! Every day I'm getting more and more attached to the Epic. I love the weight, size, feel, looks, playabilty of it. Sam | ||

thanks for the advice i think you are right about not oiling the finish i checked the manual on the site and that is what it says to and you were right mine is a 97 so your memory seems spot on my brass is fine as i am the first owner it had been in a shop since then i too love my epic more and more everyday everything is perfect i cant wait to play it again as i am at university and wont be able to play it till tonight ah well thanks again sam talk to you soon ps going to borrow my friends digital camara soon so pictures should be hear soon | ||

I have an Excel, not an Epic, but the finish is the same. I use Zaino Brothers show car polish on the body and it really shines! On the back of the neck I use the Alembic Supreme polish spray. And yes, lemon oil on the fretboard. Every string change, I quickly run neverdull on the brass and on every fret and the polish them all with a soft cloth. Never Dull is a wadding ( cotton,I believe) in a can that has some light tarnish removing stuff laced in it. It is in a blue can and can be found at any hardware store or in the hardware section of Wal Mart and such. Paul, I don't think there is enough hair left to comb ;) Paul, The Shiny One! | ||
