reed mathis is amazing. there's a live jacob fred jazz odyssey from when he was still with them called All Is One that has some of the most unbelievable bass solos i've heard in recent years on it. for those who don't know, when he played with them he usually used an octave pedal and played lead while their keyboard player played basslines. that record is worth checking out, but not much of their other stuff is.
