As far as dull tone, it seems pretty good to me (as a guitar player). I would have to know what amp he used, his EQ settings, the mic used, and to be really specific, hear it in person to make a fair judgment. Alembic filters are very powerful and can override most amps e.q. No doubt about his skills as he's very good and his sound overall is good, it's just not as close to Alembic as one might think.
