I know this sounds cliche, but I must say the 2 shows I just saw at the newly redone 1st Bank center in Broomfield Colorado were superb! Last night the 6th was the best post Grateful Dead Show i have ever been blessed to see. Granted I only saw THe Dead from 1989 on but Damn this feels sooooo goood!! So soory for all the excited punctuations but the magic is surely afoot again. I say this being a serious 68-74 devotee especially 3-71 10-74 era with just Billy and i have to say Russo and Lane are so tight and locked in to Phil and his style....WOW. People go see this band if your a "head" you won't likely be dissappointed. The band played Darkstar>Time>Darkstar,Dew and the Dew was the best one i've seen in my days seeing music(@ 23 years) with or without Jerry.(please people i'm in no way trying to be blasphemist or whatever but it was not just the lsd the music really was that good!!)What a grateful way to break in a "new" venue. Now i just gotta get to s.f. for Phil's 70th celebration. I'm pretty sure i wasn't the only one who was utterly devistated after "The Dead" shows last year that were....well to put it mildly, sucked big time. Phil to me has never looked so blissful whilest playing music in the "other bands" in my honest opinion and thats all this really is is my opinion. PEace and low notes to all............Bear

Phil,Bobby, john kadlecik from dark star orchestra, jay lane from primus, joe russo , jeff chimenti, sunshine becker, and zoe ellis. The drummers are what make this beast the best so far.(imho)

Is Kadlecik still doing his Jerry imitation on vocals? I loved the lineup when I saw them on Oakland last year, but Jerry's voice coming out of Kadlecik was a little creepy, IMHO.

Kadlecik isn't doing his full Jerry imitation anymore. He still has the right range and phrasing but it's more natural now, he's singing more like himeself.

I didn't know Jay Lane was in Primus! That's cool.

And here is my 2 cents -

I chose not to go to the Furthur shows in Broomfield mainly because I was grossly disappointed by the Ratdog show in Boulder recently; that, and the bad rep the venue had under it's last ownership. It's good to hear that the shows were a success.

I think the Dead show in Denver last year was GREAT, other than being in a venue with poor sound, that is (Pepsi Center). Good song choices and good playing, too.

I saw a Hammerstein show, and the Bethlehem PA show. I thought they were ok, though both times I left after the start of the second set....I just dont have the stamina to stand for 3+hours on a concrete floor these days (maybe if I dropped 50 lbs I could).

Dont mean to be a wet sponge, but I dont think these these shows have the energy that some of the earlier P&F friends shows had....especially that tour that had Barry Sless and Chris Robinson....

Is Phil playing the Modulus more these days?

I was going to go to these shows, but I'm broke and after my H1N1 bout, way behind on everything.

It's great to see Joe get this gig. He spent a while here in Boulder. In the mid 90s when he had a great band called Fat Mama with keyboardist extraordinaire Erik Deutsch. We used to play every now and then at Nederland Acid Jazz jams and what not.

I listened to the show being streamed and I am awfully sorry I didn't go.

I am a fan of Barry too, but I think this band sounds more like a band in terms of how they all gel together. From the other bits and pieces of the other shows I've heard from this lineup, it sounds like they are just getting started as Saturday seemed head and shoulders above the earlier shows.

Are the two things mutually exclusive, Bill?
Whose headstock is that coming out of Bobby's right hand in the top picture?

Three cheers for Phil Lesh , look at the enthusiasm in his face at 70 ! His Birthday is March 15th , mine is March 14th but I will only be 54. He is 16 years older then me and I could only wish that I will have his drive AND MIND at 70. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PHIL , AND AT LEAST 30 MORE ! Look at Bob Weir ! It is really good to see these guys still jam like that. This musical form must be kept ALIVE !

Phil played the Ritter bass when I saw them and his tone was by far the best Id ever heard. Dead or not. His playing was great. Furthur is surely the best thing any member of the Dead have done since Jerry died. I am extremely impressed with what I saw/heard. Everyone loved it. It was the closest I have come to the vibe of a Dead show. Even security was slack at the show I saw.

I saw Furthur at the Auditorium Theater last Tuesday and wowowee, it was amazing. Closest incarnation to the Golden days I have heard since 95.

I was thinking at the show "If they can keep this together for a couple years so everyone gels and gets deeper into each other, it's going to be amazing!"

They did a hell of a job on It Must of Been the Roses, and blew my mind with Hurricane!

So i am even more convinced i saw something special the sat. show in denver cause friday in SF was i don't want to say a bummer but it was. Unfortunately it was more Chris Robinson and furthur but i never really liked the black pigeons. One interesting highlight was the Particle song they played, Phil really seemed to get off, but the whole show had to many guitar players on stage and like when it was Bobby,Warren, and Jimmy, and company during the 04, 05 "The Dead" thingey, it makes the beast more prone to trainwrecks....Speaking of trainwrecks did anybody get the lyrical changes Bobby made to Mingleweir Blues?????Still like all Dead incarnations with or with out Jerry off nights can happen. This seemed alot had to do with crowd energy also, i noticed a large % of people on opiates and booze instead of "L" etc. so the energy of the crowd was off i'd say.
