I have a custom hand made Tune King Bass. Not one of the Sam Ash ones. And live in seattle. It's in 9.5 out of 10 shape. Bart pickus and electronics. Will be gigging the next 2 weekends in seattle if ya want to see it. I would put it up against an Alembic any day.

A five-string for under a grand? How about a Gold Tone? :-)

Schecter Stiletto Studio is a good deal on a good bass. Well under $1000.

I won a studio elite 5 and I have to say its a very well made, good sounding bass. Plenty on ebay as well. Mine is trans black of course.

If you are also considering used instruments, don't forget about some of the less expensive Alembics. I really like my Epics 4 and 5.

Thanks everyone. Very helpful. Although unfortunately I feel a bit of the GAS coming on as a result of this.
