I have started to a page on Bandcamp, in order to share some music with friends and family. There are a couple of "albums" of my daughter's high school vocal jazz group, and then there are The Blind Mechanics Of Disaster. We have never gigged but we are legends in our own minds. I figure our rise to world wide sensation has to start somewhere, so I have posted the first of our improvisational jams, warts and all, so my dear virtual friends at Alembic.com can start the buzz. Pretty good for a first improvisational jam! The bass sounds great; are you going direct? What kind of effects are you using? Lots of effects in that second song, including some light overdrive on the power chords that are nice and clear. The recording is very clean and balanced. The ending of the fourth song is very subtle. The acronym looks like "To Be Mod". The sixth song sounds like it's taken from One Way Out. I listened through the first six songs, and I have to say that the level on the vocals was perfect all the way through. | ||

Dave, that recording was made with a Zoom H4, about 4 feet off the ground, 8 feet in front of the drums and about 10 feet from the bass and guitar amps. The room is kind of cool, it's a big foley stage. The walls are very absorptive, and we expose the very reflective floor under our feet. So the sound coming off the kit and the amps is pretty "live" but it doesn't bounce around the room much at all. I do a little multiband compression in Bias Peak to get the finished tracks. My rig has changed a bit but at that jam I'm pretty sure I was playing through an old Dean Markley pre, Crown XLS202 biamped to a single 15" Kappalite, and an Epifani UL12. The effects were probably and EBS bassIQ for the auto wah, Bass Big muff, Wayhuge Porkloin for the distortion (both have a clean blend), and it sounds like there was some chorus at one point, a Boss bass chorus. And yes, subtlety is our bread and butter ;-) One of my favorite things about this group is that lack of song structure, and the lack of a lead singer. It's like a dream come true.
