I don't know. He's annoying as heck, but his time is right on. I've played with a number of drummers who obviously spent more time learning to twirl their sticks than actually playing their instruments. I don't think Rick K. and the Allergies need to find another drummer quite yet.

Oh my... Hope those cymbals are threaded down really good, notice their completely horizontally mounted, (no angle at all on the cymbal stand tooth-ratchet tilter)!

I dunno, Edwin - what with the yellow-lamé (and yellow lame) tuxes & general jive-ass lounge-atiude, I'd say he was the least annoying part of it. And whatever it is he's doing, he is really good at it.

That is too funny.
The drummer is right in the pocket though.
I played/auditioned a drummer once who fell
asleep on his toms inbetween songs!
At least this chap is animated

Got to agree with most of you..although he was demonstrating show skills he didn't miss a beat did he??
Maybe we are just too musically snobbish??
I guess it takes all to make music in this world, and at least he is out there doing it!

I couldn't look away......... The best part by far was not really captured on camera, It's when he does the mechanical monkey drummer. Even though you can only see a little bit of it, it's spectacular.

Keith Half-Moon! Love the pink flamed drum kit! And what's the story with the toilet seat that shows up on the far right at about 3:34 and at the very end?

Great analogy Alan! And the mechanical monkey was great! That was really funny... I couldn't stop watching it either as I didn't want to miss a beat (just like him).

I've seen Cornell Rochester do complex stuff with just one stick, the other hand pointing in the air, then he switched hands. Musically speaking plain unnecessary, but fun to watch.

What I really want to know is....does he do that for every song?

Fun to watch, but his fills and tone sucked.

Ya know, just as a test, try this:

You know how some of those really 'expressive' musicians make those funny (pinchin off one) faces when they are really into it?

The next time (alone of course) you are just messing around, try it. I mean, hit a note that you think sounds you are lifting a 200lb barbell, and make a face to go with it. Keep doing it! It works! Seriously!

Me, I'm normally like Mr. Spock. Emotionless, but groovin. But when I cut loose and start making the faces, I feel good.

That drummer, theatrics or real, certainly has the skills to back up his antics.

I like his style, over-the-top? Maybe, But he does back it up! Plus what he is doing is fun!

If you are playing well, and you know it... show it.

When you work a groove, the audience will feed off whoever is in motion in the band. That's energy you'll feed on to keep you at a level euphoric, and unlimited energy. "It's a natural high" and I seek this feeling every time I strap on...

Sometimes, I don't get there, but if the music's good, it's better than anything... (yes, better than that too).

Back in the 70's though the 80's taking Martial Arts, with every kick or punch, we were instructed to let out a yell. It's relaxing.

Peace and Love,

That Monkey thing at 2:25...Kevin I would totally have missed that had you not said something. Fantastic!

I'm thinking the type of music is limiting the drumming, but not the style. Frank Beard wasn't much for drum riffing but totally gave a great back beat IMHO. Give this guy a great, open song and I bet he'd take it all the way.
