Hey David, are you sure it was your co-worker and not "THE BOSS" who left the surprise? It's nice to share... Where's the pics, we want to see the wallpaper too!

Why don't I think of these things sooner? Having just copied the quilted maple pic for my desktop ( and stunning it is), I was thinking... any way to create an Alembic archive of exceptional tops for us to steal for our desktop enjoyment? The quilted coco bolo would be nice, and this may be a way to enjoy zebrawood without the olfactory assault!

Larry:

I've just been saving pix of Alembics and features I like and bringing them up as wallpaper when I need a change. Pretty easy to do (since I spend an inordinate amount of time admiring basses anyway!) and there's always something new and exciting to look at.

FYI - I'm now making the image at the bottom of the Featured Custom each month clickable to a large pic suitable for wallpaper. It will usually be a URL something like this:
http://www3.alembic.com/img/13130_wallpaper1.jpg

A slightly smaller version is found at
http://www3.alembic.com/img/13130_wallpaper2.jpg

When I've got a few months' worth collected, I'll get them all together for easy finding.

Custom wooden desktops... oh my Larry, you've just added another project on my list. That will be very cool.

Mica,

which fonttype do you use for the featured custom text? I have hundreds of them on my computer but I can't find the one you are using. First I thought it would be the Alembic font. Seemed logical. But it's not.
For everybody else, if you have a picture editor on your computer, use the magic wand tool to select the area around the bass and change the color of it, or use an existing picture, for instance, a piece of cocobolo, to create a darker background. Use the clone tool to put two pictures together. Very easy to do.
The white background looks nice, but it is too bright for my eyes early in the morning or when you have a headache. A softer tone is more friendly if you are using a large screen.

Mica and all,

There was a reason requested a CD of the pictures of my bass. Every day at work, I'll go in and select one of the pictures of my bass as my desktop at work. At home, I have the one I labled "Down the Bridge" as the desktop. Very Inspirational...

Manfred,

Would you call yourself a typophile?

The type used on the featured custom is called Alchemy. We purchased it from Jeremy Tankard Typography in England. Not cheap-but oh so perfect for us don't ya think? Mica uses the advanced section to further customize the look.

Hi Susan,

Mica mailed me about it allready. A typophile, not really, I am a typograph, did a lot things in that direction, even old stuff like ancient greek, arabic (still don't have a clue what I created with that) and more of these things. Before modern graphic systems we had to draw all these characters by hand, thank you lord for inventing the computer. But still, when designing logo's you'll have to draw one or use a not so common fonttype for it. Because I was one of the last real drawing designers, I know the skills and has my interest. So it is logic to me that you choose the Alchemy type for it. I mean, Alembic has everything to do with it. Take the Omega and omega point designs. There you have it.

Manfred
