Hey! I may go. It's just that every time I go, I come back with an old Alembic. I really can't see spending the money, but if the right piece comes up....you know. I really like that show. There is also another in the fall every year too, but that one is in Arlington, TX. I got my 1972 Alembic from that show, and my 1973 Alembic too. The 1973 I got from the original owner, and he originally got it at that very same show.

Paul - Yep. I would do that. I wouldn't mind checking out one of those myself.

My dear friend ...that price is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-ar out of my league.
But ...very nice indeed!
I LOVE it!
It will be a slow hunt. There is no rush.

I saw the Les Paul signature and I love that body style with the offset horns. Sort of a hotter looking Guild Starfire or Gibson EB2. I once owned a used Casady. The only complaint I had with it was the finish was cheap and tended to chip very easily. On the other hand, I played a used LP signature while I still owned the Casady. Though the signature was clearly a much better piece of workmanship, I thought the Casady electronics performed better out of the low impedance set up. The new, bigger soapbar seemed a lot hotter than the old Gibson pu.

Admittedly, I didn't A-B with the same rig. Also, I can't vouch for the condition of the LP I was playing. But when I got home and played the Casady (through my own, lesser rig), it sounded better to me. Better clarity and definitely more mid and bottom end punch. I finally let go of the Casady because I had just gotten my first Alembic and wasn't playing it a lot. But I really liked the Casady and thought it was a good deal at the used prices you can find if you're patient (I think I paid $375).

The LP on Ebay looks like it might have some historical significance if it actually is a prototype, rather than a production instrument. But for the money and the sound, the Casady is a pretty good deal and fun. I'm sure I'll buy another one eventually. The one thing I might do with it is use some sound deadening material inside to reduce the tendency to feedback (I know it's sacriledge, but forgive me).

Paul: You couldn't find a bass that is more different from an Alembic to play than a Casady, but the tone is very nice for a lot of music. Sounds good with fingers or pick. Wouldn't recommend it as a slapper, though!

Patience (as they say) is a virtue (Have I hear somewhere that ordering a custom Alembic is character-building? Or just frustrating and rather expensive for good measure?!). I can't complain - the wait for my new bass has barely begun (I won't ask for a delivery date...Couldn't bear to think any more about the wait...I've got it! Just call Mica every week and add something new to the order!).

Let us know if you do connect with a Casady. I'll write in about any I see.

Brother Bill ...that would be great.
I played one and love the simplicity although fine tone shaping possibilities.
I'll keep you posted.
It's rather rare over here.
