I've not seen anything on here so far (and I know I'm a couple of weeks out of date) but I've just found out that Mike Portnoy has left dream theater :-( I, for one, don't believe the band will ever sound like dream theater again. portnoy was one of the founder members and his drumming was one of my main reasons for getting into their music. Think it's time to lock myself in a room with their back-catalogue. graeme |

It's a shame. There are hundreds of amazing drummer's out there but Mike was a big part of DT's sound and drive. I'm sure who ever they get will be a monster but they will surely be different. I'm sure still great but they will never be the same. Still ... 25 years in the same band? Now a days that's one hell of a record! Good luck to Mike AND DT! |

I was introduced to DT by my son, I honestly had never heard of the band until a couple of years ago as my 'prog rock' days ended back in the middle 70's They are an incredible band and 25 years is a long time(silver wedding anniversary!!!) It must have been a hard decision for him to make and by reading the press release he did give them a chance for a break but they wanted to carry on. I am sure there will be a long line of drummers ready to audition for them fresh out of M.I.T. |
