I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know how to get in touch with Brian Smith from Hyak? I am looking for schematics of his electronics so I can get my Hyak bass repaired. Thanks! Michael |

Michael: I've not a clue about contacting Bruce Smith, but, if it would help, I can open up my Hyak guitar and snap some pics or answer any questions. Bill, tgo |

Bill, Thanks! But I think I may need more than some pictures. My Hyak was working just fine and just stopped working suddenly. When it is plugged into my power supply (Alembic IN-2) it is just dead. In fact when it's plugged in the power light on my IN-2 goes out. It seems like a power short somewhere. I tried different cables and power supplies. No luck. I even put batteries in the bass hoping it would at least work on battery power. No go. When I put the batteries in the batteries just get hot. There is no obvious short that my eyes can see. I suspect that the problem lies in the circuit card that is attached to the 1/4 inch jack. It seems the power goes there before it goes go the preamps. Thoughts? Michael |

Hi, Michael. My Hyak is at Alembic right now. They might be able to help you. I do know they talk to Brian Smith every couple of months and know how to get in touch with him. But, I have heard from Mica he does not like talking about those days. So, Good luck. I do still appreciate you talking to me a few years ago about Hyak. You gave me a bunch of info and explained the controlls very effectively. Thank you, again. Nick |

Michael, I can pass your number on to Brian. And I'll ask him for schematics while I'm talking to him. We've done repairs on Hyak electronics before. |

Thanks Mica. Hopefully the schematics will help. Nick, that is how my control cavity looks. I suspect that the problem lies with a component on the card with the 1/4 inch jack. Thanks! Michael |

That would be a great addition to the Hyak bass. If this comes to fruition a copy this way would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Art And sorry Michael, Best of everything in getting this done. If you need me to do any VOM measurements on mine let me know. Art (Message edited by artswork99 on November 19, 2010) |

I have all of these wonderful basses but none of them work! I'm heading to Guitar Center today and I'm going to do something stupid. I've never owned a Fender or a bolt on neck before. This feels bad. |

If it feels bad, don't do it. |

Then again, it doesn't hurt to have a beater bass lying around. How about a Squier? You can always upgrade it later - think Activators! |

Get a Stingray, you will love it! Mine never fails to cut through and always sounds the same at every gig I do with it. If the batteries get hot, it may well be a short somewhere that is draining them down too fast. Dave |
