Sad to hear, he was a special kind of " Performance Artist " that will indeed be missed.

Pitchfork has a nice obituary with videos. I love his music - started with Zappa, but the Capt. had his own thing going. Trout Mask Replica, Lick My Decals Off Baby, The Spotlight Kid and Clear Spot were my favorites. I will be having a neon meate dream of a octafish tonight in his honor!

Sad news. I've been a fan ever since I heard a recommendation by Tom Waits.

So sad to hear of the Captain's passing, I always hoped one day I'd be able to get one of his paintings, but now I'll never be able to afford one...I remember the first time I heard him, on Saturday Night Live, when 'doc at the radar station' came out. I was a suburban Ontario kid about 12-13 who'd never heard or seen anything like it-this weird dude in a hat with a strange voice singing about an ashtray heart...I Liked It!I didn't hear him again for a couple o' years(local record store didn't have it) untill I moved to Vancouver and I've been a huge fan since...if I had to take just one album to an island it would be one of the captain's-not sure which one, but you can hear that stuff forever and catch new wrinkles in it all the time...and besides, if you're gonna go crazy on an island by yourself, might as well have crazy music!

I was reading a crazy thing about 'trout mask replica', which has many incorrect stories about it(mostly by the captain himself...) but this one is true, that they practised the music for months then recorded almost all the tracks in 4 1/2 HOURS...chew on that for a bit and be humbled...now go back and listen to the album and really be blown away!

Too bad I never saw him play live...farewell my Captain!
Tony
