I need some help from you creative types. I will be running some magazine ad.s in Australia for Alembic and am interested on club member suggestions for a tag line. So far I like:
"Learn to dream differently"

I'd like to hear your suggestions.

Hmmm. I used to be in marketing for a Fortune 500 hundred company. One way to "sell" a customer is to empower them to believe that they are right. So, instead of suggesting that they dream differently, they should be motivated to dream, period. "When it comes to tone, your dreams come true on an Alembic". Or "From your heart, through your hands, to their ears, Alembic has the tone your dreams are made of". Get the idea?

Or the hard sell (as seen in New York)- "You ARE gunna buy dis here bass- right?" (to the sound of the salesman's knuckles cracking).

Well, play around with some ideas. Just ask yourself what would motivate you to take a look at an Alembic?

...thoughts...

Hey, how about this-

"Alembic basses, in touch with you" or "Alembic basses- your sound- now". "Your tone, now- Play an Alembic bass". "Do you want to be a laurie driver all your bleedin' life? Buy an Alembic and see the world"....uh, maybe not that one.

What's a magazine? You mean those old paper things people used to read before the Internet took over the world? I guess anyone who can afford to buy magazines these days can afford to buy an alembic.

Words have never sold me like graphics do. Especially if the graphic has someone I want to be like in it. Therefore a quote from Stanley or Mark King would have inpact on me. But mainly, I just look at the pictures. No help here.

I'm guessing that you'll be advertising all Alembic products, not just basses?

It's one of my favourite quotes whatsoever, which I also use in my forum-profile, because it describes the 'Alembic-virus' best for me personally. But actually it's from the lyrics of a Guided By Voices song:

"The Closer You Are, The Quicker It Hits You"

Wait a minute ...

If not all Lamborghinis are cars then are you not implying that not all Alembics are basses, guitars or pre-amps?

And knowing that Lamborghini started building cars as a side-line to its successful line of farm machinery, aren't you comparing Alembics to farm machinery?

long, long ago in art school I did an add comp with an SC bass, the logo and the simple text: "Four-String Ferrari". Man, I thought I was brilliant, time has shown otherwise...anyway here goes a few.

"Your quest is over."
"Don't forget to breathe."
"It's okay to touch it."
"Go ahead, touch it."
"We dare you."
"Things to do today: wake up, play, go back to bed."

Thanks everyone - its not as easy as it looks. Good points, Bryant.

I kinda like "How deep is your love." Does anyone know who played bass on those sessions?

Along similar lines, how about: "Sweet dreams are made of this."

Can anyone think of well known lines from songs played by a famous Alembicians that might work? Come on all you Entwistle fans. No permutations on "Don't get fooled again".

Adriaan: I had no idea that comparing any product to a Lamborghini could be construed as an insult! As to whether all Alembics are basses, preamps, guitars: Some Alembic products are pickups and other accessories; and some vintage Alembic products are speaker cabinets. Sadly, none are cars (I'd drive one!). Happily, I feel certain that none are farm machinery. But, I guess I didn't know all I thought...

No doubt they do...but I understand they consider it bad form (and bad luck!) to discuss publicly. So, while we all know them 'stills is out ther' in dem woods, out back, I think we should leave those kind of alembics off the farm machinery inventory (At least the one that 'revenuin' tax feller' gets to see...).

If you visit a wine museum in France (there's plenty of those around) they usually have an alambic on display. They'll tell you what they did with it, but they won't let you play it. The French are still distilling 'eau de' whatever - beer, wine, fruit, you name it - and they must still be using an alambic-like apparatus for that, I think.

If you ever visit the Alsace, Colmar is a good place to start. And if you thought Mel Gibson's protrayal of the passion of Christ was bloody, check out the 15th C. Issenheimer altar by Mathias Grünewald at the Musée d'Unterlinden - nothing new under the sun.

David, I looked it up; their guitar player Alan Kendall is listed as the bass player on that album.
