Spring '72 my all time favorite period of Grateful Dead music! No disrespect to Mickey Hart but i love this lineup with just Bill, Jerry, Phil, Pig, Keith&Donna, and Bobby. Super choice song selection ala lots of cool cowboy tunes, great covers, lots of Pigpen energy considering the condition his condition was in, some of the longest spacey Playing in the Bands, Other Ones, Dark Stars, and improv excellence, and just total unit cohesion that got harder as other drugs and personal came on the scene. Comes a Time And Morning Dew from this era is also simply amazing almost every time played. I do think its a lot of dough but the HDCD stuff they put out is killer. Being a rabid tape collector since the 80's this stuff puts my Dat and Flac stuff on the side burner when i get new stuff to listen to from the horses mouth. Plus reel to reel masters sound so refreshing in this protools digital world we live in. Funny how a nice Rudy Van Gelder from the 50's or 60's sounds better than something recorded yesterday??????? Im ranting now. Peace and Low notes.....

Initially I was really excited when I saw this. Now I'm thinking about all the Dead music I already have, much of which rarely gets listened to, especially since I got XM radio (with the Dead channel) in my car. Then I'm thinking about the $450 price!!!! I missed out on the complete Fillmore box set they came out with a couple of years ago, but jumped on the condensed release a few months later. I smell the same thing happening here, so I think I'll wait it out.

Personally I think GDM is on crack with the pricing for this, but I put my pre-order in, I don't have the money for this now, but I "think" I will be able to have it in the fall.

While this is a TON of music, hasnt alot of it been released already?
Rockin the Rhine, Steppin out, Hundred Year Hall, plus the various dicks picks?

Now the real dilemna...Several "friends" who I told that I pre-ordered this are already asking me if they can bring their hard drives over and and copy the stuff when I get it...I really need to think about how Im going to handle that..

I don't see why they don't release it on hard drive to begin with.

I'm signed up. It's my favorite era. Some has been released, but probably only 15-10%. They were playing long shows that spring and a lot of them.

I'm hoping I can swing by Airshow Mastering and get a preview!
Maybe we can petition Jeffrey to mix Phil nice and loud.

I purchased a Dolby 363 with SR/A cards a few years back from a fellow that went on the Europe 72 tour. He had an interesting story regarding the Ampex MM1000 and the input transformers that he said were used.

From what I understand, they used transformers instead of mic pres because the EV mics could put out enough level to avoid the noise of an active circuit. Please correct me if you know more!

Edwin, if you look at my post 1552 you will see that I did write "Input Transformers" not "mic pres ", _____yes that is the correct story as I was told as well. We are on the same page brother ! LOL _____
