I'm looking out the window here in mid-Missouri to see that snow has drifted over the hood of my car. Kind of makes me wish I was in Santa Rosa. How's everyone else faring? (Message edited by hydrargyrum on February 02, 2011) |

Nice and sunny here in Seattle, but it won't last. Wanted to give a shout out to Columbia Mo. I love that place. I learned to play the blues while there in the 80’s. I cut my teeth playing at the Blue Note, Park Place, and Lee’s Lounge. Enjoy the cold now. The heat and ticks are just around the corner. |

I have friends & family in Glasgow, Missouri . I think it's time to call and say hi. They had an awful experience a few years back when a "Twister" rolled through and took the nearly 200 year old family farm house. The weather on the Central California Coast is quite spring like at this time. |

Hit minus 19 degrees in Conifer Colorado yesterday. My Diesel gelled up in the tank and my truck died. Whoopie!!! Were having fun here now. Was worried my garden might freeze too and it's inside. Might get above zero today here. I don't know how they do this all winter in Canada. Kinda wished we would get some snow though cause the foothills and Denver are way behind in moisture this year. |

Unreal - all the streets by me (suburb of NYC) are basically OK, except for the hill that I grew up on, where my mother still lives. Since school was cancelled, I dropped my 5 year old daughter off at her house for the day before heading into NYC for work... ...Parked at the top of the hill, got out, and quickly realized that walking was not an option. So, my daughter and I sat down on our butts and slid all the way down to my mother's house! Fun, but we were completely soaked! Walked in, threw our clothes in the dryer... I had a cup of coffee, hung out for a while in some old clothes, changed, and climbed back up the ice-enshrined street to my car, and drove in. I was only an hour late, but what an experience. Now my back hurts a little... I've pretty much had it with this insane winter at this point. |

As soon as I'm done reading the board, I'm out to clear the central IL snow; some places the ground's bare, some places there are drifts 4'-5' high. It should take a little longer than usual today. I've about decided I need to live somewhere without winter or summer; just spring-fall-spring-fall. But this isn't bad, really - now when I was boy we had snow...... We're the only house around with electricity. Ironically, we're also the only one with a functioning wood stove and the wood to run it. Trees have been shedding branches like crazy, but so far nothing too bad. I think I can still get to the road (we live in the woods), but haven't checked today. It's gonna be a real mess when this all melts. Stay warm and safe, my friends! John |

Hey Gary, I work for MU, and am familiar with the places you've named. Columbia's a great little town. The university has been closed since yesterday, something unheard of in previous years. I've managed to dig myself and my elderly neighbor out, so clear sailing from here on. |

The middle of Massachusetts really sucks, though I'm sure there are people worse off. We've had a storm dropping enough snow to generate cancellations the past three consecutive Tuesdays with a little more on the side here and there. Yesterday and today the back-to-back storms caused cancellations, and though it seems quiet now, the forecasts say it isn't over. I think we had one day in the mid 30s this past month, but not enough to melt anything significant. Untouched areas of snow are in the vicinity of 3' while the sides of most streets are over your head. We've seen a couple accidents already where driveways and side streets have been rendered blind and the streets are narrowing. Can't wait for this winter to end, but there's so much water on the ground, I know there are going to be all sorts of flooding issues in the future. On top of that, golf courses and other turf-related spring activities will be delayed until the ground can absorb all that water and firm back up. Anyone else envy people that live in condos of late? -bob |

Milwaukee actually is 'shut-down' because of a snow emergency. Not as bad as some others have gotten it this year. This is Wisconsin - Snow Happens. Let the dogs out this morning for potty time, had to push real hard to open the back door - snow drifts were taller than the dogs. I have over 10" of ground clearance on my 93 YJ jeep - but I am heeding the medias advice and staying home. My back is sore - wish I had a snowblower . . . We have a couple left over sunflowers that refuse to lay down!

Aside from getting called in to plow anywheres between midnight and 4am, it really isn't that bad around here. When I lived in upstate NY this was par for the course. |

We had a massive ice storm tues night into weds night in eastern PA. I ended up having to take a personal day as the roads were pretty treacherous until noon or so when everything started to melt. The ironic thing is that I guess age has caught up with me, and I am only 43! Even as recently as 3-4 years ago I loved this kind of weather, and would schedule a winter camping trip once a year, but anymore I really don't care for it. I am seriously thinking of making a move for a warmer climate, such as California. |

Greg, I made the move from New England (MA/NH) to Georgia last year. While NH was settling in to another snowstorm this week, here we got a "Winter Thunderstorm Warning." Oh, the suffering I must endure here as it is in the 60s and wet. How can I go on? |

Same with me, Greg; it doesn't seem like it was that long ago that my biggest complaint about this storm would have been that I wasn't out camping in it. Now, I was quite content to share central heat with wife, dog, good book, & good beer. Peter |

John, That picture is melting my brain. Love it!! Low 60's here in Southern California... nothing really to complain about, other than our State budget. I'd complain about the cost of living, but I don't have to buy snowblowers, snow tires, winter clothing, etc. I went to work today in cargo shorts and a sweatshirt. |

The temp in NW Colorado is finally breaking a little bit. It's above zero for the first time in a while. The lowest this week was -36. It stayed below zero for a few days. Now that the temp is creeping up it's starting to snow. It's always something, I guess. But, with all the weather disasters around the US and the world, I have nothing to whine about. Rich P.S. A little tip about windshield washer fluid. We've been testing it at work. I am a warehouse manager for the Colorado Dept. of Transportation. This year we started using Rain-X 2in1 washer fluid. The reports from our snowplow drivers have been really good. I have a bag of it outside on my back deck. When it was -36 the stuff was starting to get a little thick but wasn't freezing at all. I get it from a truck parts supply house, but I think WalMart carries it. There is also a washer fluid additive sold by NAPA that will take regular -20 washer fluid down to about -40 or -45. |

I am giving some thought to making the move to california, to the point where I am doing some research on the job market out there for my field. Everything here in eastern PA is just a big icy mess. The path from my front door to my driveway is all ice, my driveway is all ice, and this morning while taking the dog for a walk I fell twice. I dont really have any ties here anymore, and really the only thing that makes me think twice about leaving is that I have emotional ties to the house Im in. I grew up in it, and it sits on a nice parcel of 5 acres that backs up to a couple of thousand acres of preserved woodland, but all this ice and snow, coupled with east coast summers that are simply oppressive in terms of heat and humidity really make me question staying here. |

Gregory: DO IT! You'll never regret it. One thing you should be aware of, though, is that Southern California is a completely different universe from Northern California. They've got smog, urban sprawl, flatlands, and beautiful blond women who wear open-toed sandals in case they have to count to "20", (and have boyfriends in case they have to count to "41"). Northern California has healthier air, far more interesting and beautiful topography, intelligent women, and, of course, we've got Alembic! Seriously, if you have any questions about the left coast, ask away. Bill, tgo |

Thanks Bill....The thought of a climate where you can walk outside in shorts and a tshirt 365 days a year and not encounter extreme cold or humidity is pretty damn appealing. I suspect Northern CA might be the place for me, but I need to go where the jobs are.. I do actually have tons of questions, probably best for me to email you offline once I get my thoughts in order. |

2 - 3 inches of snow in Nashville and 9 degrees this morning. The snow started right before rush hr yesterday and it only too 2 hrs to do a 30 minute commute. Luckily I know the secret back road that goes back into our area. But it has one very steep hill. I'll piddle away at the house today and probably play some (a new bass really motivates). I found some pretty cool "bass lessons" on You-Tube last night. Will probably keep me occupied until my arm starts hurting. But all in all, can't really complain too much about the weather in Mid-TN. Not as hot as south of us in the summer and not as cold as north of us. As they say around here "if you don't like the weather, just wait a day or two" Stephen |

"One thing you should be aware of, though, is that Southern California is a completely different universe from Northern California" When my wife informed me in 1986, that she wasn't happy in the bay area, (We lived in beautiful Marin County) and that she wanted to try moving back home to L.A. I was faced with a problem. If I refuse, as was my inclination, then whe would likely resent me for all time. If I agreed, then I would have to live in L.A. (Nooooooooooo!!!!!!) So I formulated this secret plan, I would move, suffer for a year, then insist on returning to the Glory of the San Francisco Bay area. (I really do love it up there.) That was 1986, I've been in L.A. ever since, and will likely die here, hopefully in another 40 or 50 years......... The block where I live, about 3 miles from the ocean, has the best weather, IN THE ENTIRE WORLD, yep, my block. Theater, music, used instrument stores, beaches, mountains, deserts, food, food, and better food. Many fine people, and the stereotypes are a source of everyday comedy. I would posit that L.A. is like many large Urban areas in the world, whether you are happy or miserable here, depends more on what you bring to it, than the inherent nature of the place. I LOVE L.A. YMMV |
