Here is a video of Return To Forever in 1974 playing After The Cosmic Rain. Stanley is playing a black Rickenbacker! You can't see the bass until 3 minutes into the song.

Does anyone remember the Shaftesbury bass guitar that was a Rickenbacker copy? It was my 2nd bass guitar in late 60s and mine was sunburst. Glynn

There were a host of manufacturers selling Ric copies back in the late '60s early '70s. Electra and Aria are the big ones that come to mind. I wouldn't mind owning one. I'd like to carve it up a bit and paint it psychodelic..

There's a Shaftsbury on ebay right now. Search under "Japan Bass."

i have an Electra Ric copy that sounds killer, doesn't have the original trussrod cover that said Electra on it but through my search the pickups are an exact match for the Electras. Ibanez and Univox made the nicest copies though, for a little while they even made some with the 2 outputs. My Ric copy is pretty rough though and really needs a fret job. Got her and a 15 watt Peavey practice amp that is LOUD for about $250ish so wasn't a bad deal at all.
