We've heard from our distributor Sleek Elite in Tokyo that he is safe. I'm hoping that our customers and friends in Japan are safe. I know the news will show us the worst images, but the devastation looks massive along the coast. |

Hi from Tokyo. All my family are safe. We don't know all about the damage at this time, almost in Tokyo are safe (only traffic stop and confusion) but there is big damage by Tunami in Sendai (300km north from Tokyo). Eiji |

The footage on the news channels are devastating, we are at the mercy of mother nature. It is reported that one of the nuclear plants is not so safe..I hope for all the japanese people that nothing else escalates. |

Glad to hear you and your family are holding up. The devastation is tragic. I am watching the news now for Oregon, California, and Washington. It would appear those coastal states might get some serious wave strikes. |

Thank you for your kind words. Now I'm at home. It's just like passed through the hurricane in my house. All my Alembic basses are still there on the stand, but I can't take it in my hand. I will check tomorrow. (My Ovation Gtr. is under hardcases, Oh !) The mortality victims of tunami are numbered over 300, and the missing are over 500 now. These numbers will be increase after dawn. My thoughts are with you. I can't imagine how awful things must be there. Thank goodness for the small mercy that your Alembics appear okay, and more importantly, that you and your family are well. |

Glad to hear you're o.k. Eiji. Hopefully the toll on life and property will be less than feared. Having lived through the Loma Prieta Quake in '89 (which appears to be a slight rumble in comparison), I know how these things bring a different perspective than the everyday hustle and bustle of life. One realizes what's really important. My heart goes out to all the people who lost love ones, or have been, or will be, displaced. Bill, tgo |

From Shizuoka Japan, Thank you very much for everyone's concern. The eathquake at my home town was small so there was nothing serious damage around me, my family and Alembics. Toshiaki |

Thoughts and prayers for sure. I'm a geologist and am fascinated by this type of event, but watching the Skynews video this morning brought tear to my eyes and a prayer from my heart. Stephen |

Definitely good to hear from Eiji and Toshiaki. Just heard from my cousin in Tokyo that she and her brothers are safe, also their mom and dad (my aunt and uncle) who live in Iwate prefecture, which is near the epicenter. Still waiting to hear about my father-in-law - he is in the tsunami zone in Hokkaido... And Mica, thank you for starting this thread - I learned about the earthquake here first! |

Harry, I hope your father-in-law is safe. There are many big aftershocks still and the tsunami alert isn't cancelled yet. Though the situation does not allow much room for optimism, I can find few casualties in Hokkaido on TV news. |

Just heard from my mother in law this morning - everyone on her side of the family is ok! But watching the footage is heartbreaking - there are still so many people missing and unaccounted for. |

Harry, It's good to hear your family is safe ! The aftershocks are still contnued and hypocenters are spreaded and multiple arround east area. Uncounted people are missing (a half of some commune are floated !?). Atomic power plants have serious damage on cooling systems. But we started to recover from this calamity. Thank you for all prayers and help of the world. We will be rising like the sun. Eiji |

My thoughts are with you, Eiji and your fellow citizens. We're still trying to locate some of our friends. We're hoping they didn't choose this time to visit family in the tsunami zone and that their families are OK. |

I'm sorry but I cannot write correctly what I mean in english: j'espère que nous apprendrons à relativiser nos petits problèmes personnels d'accordage et d'électronique défaillante face au drame japonais. Je pense à vous et j'en suis très peiné, même si lâchement je ne peux rien faire de concret. Terrific: http://fr.euronews.net/nocomment/2011/03/13/latest-201103130914-japon/ |

Good to hear from Eiji and Toshiaki. As others have mentioned, the enormity of the disaster is difficult to fully grasp. My heart is with all of the people of Japan. |

The situation in Japan continues to worsen, dramatically. The news at this hour has the catastrophe at the nuclear plant growing further out of control. After the loss of life and devastation of the earthquake and tsunami, the ongoing nightmare at the nuclear plant weighs heavy on the heart. |

I've been watching this closely as well, Dave. Several explosions, and worst of all, trouble cooling the core. I spent a great deal of time as an undergraduate in the most powerful research reactor in the U.S. (just off the campus at Mizzou, where I still work). My feelings are so mixed regarding the benefits and detriments of nuclear energy that I couldn't begin to sum them up here. Needless to say, I'll be watching and hoping that the impact to human health and the environment is as minimal as possible. |
