I have this faint memory of a Jorma Kaukonen accoustic guitar instrumental that I'm thinking was on a Jefferson Airplane album. Was there an instrumental guitar piece on an Airplane album or am I remembering something that must have been on a Hot Tuna album? |

Hi Dave I'm thinking it might be Embryonic Journey on Surrealistic Pillow..... Although, I think that Hot Tuna recorded a live version of the same tune a little later on...... Hmmm, a few of the brain cells are still firing. Thanks for the memory. |

Thanks Hollis; I think you might be right. I went to the Barnes and Noble site where you can hear a sample of each track and the bit from Embryonic Journey does sound like it's probably what I'm thinking of. And yes, a little further investigation does confirm Embryonic Journey on some Hot Tuna albums. |

Cool, I think I might have to go blow the dust off the vinyl.... |

I will confirm that it is an acoustic guitar instrumental, quite tasty. My memory is tickled regularly as I listen to Surrealistic Pillow, one of my favourite albums, now a CD at least once or twice a month for how many years?! Yipes, let's not do the math. -Susan |

I no longer have any Airplane albums as I never purchased any replacement CD's. At the time I found them to be a great influence musically, socially, politically, spiritually; and I'm grateful for that influence. Perhaps someday they will be back in my collection. |

I never replaced any of my Airplane vinyl's and they certainly don't get airplay (if you don't count Somebody to Love). But recently, I bought the CD of Bless its Pointed Little Head. Back then, it was the first Airplane record I ran out to buy before I had even heard the whole thing. Yeow!!!!! How did I forget about how much of an influence Casady has had on my playing. I have a significant and often-accessed "mental compartment" of things I heard on that album. But I had forgotten where they came from!! Riffs, rhythmic turns, the sound of that Alembic Starfire!! Listening to them now, I have a greater appreciation than I did back then. Bill |

I've been there time and again. One of these days, I'll figure out what it takes to enroll for one of Jack's bass classes (not sure I'm ready for a masters class). They're always sold out by the time I see them, but I'm sure there's a way to get into one with some advice from the Furpeace folks.
