The headstock is modified from the "dragon wing" claw headstock. Can't wait to see it when the elbow contour is made. There should be a very nice reveal of mahogany and purpleheart! Same neck as on my custom balance k. I spent alot of time looking at pics on the web to show Mica the Grain I was looking for. I think the natural ash with the purpleheart will make a unique and cool looking combo. I wouldn't be ashamed to jump on that bandwagon. You're doing something else that I'd previously considered - a Dragon Wing style headstock on a non-Dragon Wing bass. Is the color difference between the top of the bass and the contour a shadow thing or is there some finish applied? It almost looks whitewashed. I thought that was the mahogany laminate I was seeing, but the Ash pattern is visible. After Bob sands the flat parts, he goes back and sands the rounded parts. The guitar behind it is Burl Myrtle, and it's fully prepped, and it takes on a sort of chalky appearance.
