Sorry that I didn't get to catch your bass in some more "infant" stages.

carving

It's like instabass! I should be able to get some more next week so you can see the whole thing. In this picture, Jack is sanding on the body for the contour of the tummy carving on the back. Action shots are cool!

Actually, I can see he's got a rasp and is actually carving the contour in that picture.

What's your wood recipe? I know it's mainly maple. Are you having a quilt or flame maple on the top?

It's always worth the weight. The black finishes are always outstanding.

I told you instabass!

spray

It should get some black on it next week. Even though it's gone pretty fast up to now, we have to remember that the color finishes tend to be pickier and less predictable than some of the others. Just trying to prepare you for the next peiod of time, which is the long wait in finish.

I have an all maple Elan which has the Europa electronics on and those boost and cut switches really help tame that snap to the tone that the maple gives and also makes the most of it when you need it. When I've used it live I found i needed the treble on cut most of the time and bass set to off. It gives me access to dramatic tone changes very quickly. But I'm sure you will very quickly find what works for you.

Hi Pat,

Since we just got off the phone a little while ago, you know that there isn't any black on your bass yet, but there should be any day now. I'm keeping an eye out for when I can share a new picture of the bass looking different in its next state of construction.

Hope you get the hang of picture posting - I'm sure I made it sound harder than it is when we were talking about it.

See, See! The tauntings over the years have paid off. Let the opaque revolution continue! Congrats on a great instrument.

Seems quite a few of us have black alembics now. I know I'd always prefer a natural wood finish if I was going for a new build but I do love the look and playability of my Black Europa/Elan.
Once the hardware is on this bass its gonna look regal.

Great bass, I hope you get it soon.
