I really like choice #2..I like the "knotty" look towards the bottom...like an old oak tree!! If you should have something else along that line, i would like to take a look at it and if you think it's the best you have now, then I totally trust your judgement..the last three are all beautiful and you were the ones who picked them out..and remember, the more purple heart, the better!!! Thanks!! Patrick |

I would also like the choice to also have as much contrast as possible...knotts that are both dark and light..lots and lots of contrast..all of the other basses as beautiful as they are have very little contrast...don't get me wrong, I still love them!! Patrick |

Hello Mica, as you can see i have too much time on my hands...I have read every correspondence to you and of course now I am ready to order another bass besides the one you have just started!! I saw some BEAUTIFUL photos and have come up with some ideas of what I want in the next one..is there a chance I can get some photos of my bass in progress? Also, I don't have a road case..I should probably get one huh?? Will a SC fit in a road case for a MK or a Series 2?? I know, so many frickin questions..I'm amazed how you can handle all of the e-mail and goofy requests and the constant changes...You are wonderful, thanks very much!! Patrick |

I'm glad you're having so much fun looking through the stuff here. Since you said you liked the contrasty stuff, we found this cool set: Choice 4 Choice 5 This would be a cool top and back - these are from the same board. It's neat when you can keep the wood together like that. My dad especially liked choice 4. When we were looking through the wood he chimed in wth a hearty "WOW" when we got to that piece. Talk to you soon! |

OK, I've got #4 reserved for the top and #5 as the back for this project. We'll get you some in-progress pictures. You'll probably need 2 road cases to fit the SC and the MK shapes and scales - I don't think you can get one case to work with both styles. I'm curious as to what you're cooking up for us next. Do tell! |

It's been in spray a while, and the wood is quite striking:

Jon started the inlays for your bass. Here's the 12th fret installed: The rough cut pieces for the rest of the fingerboard (these are the backsides): Hope you like them. We especially like the fiddleback ripple of the Abalone leaves. (Message edited by mica on January 14, 2003) |

And finally the start of the cute little cluster of grapes for the 24th fret:

Congrats you all at Alembic! The final product in the Custom of the month really hit it. This is so good we can follow all this! Hope you'll enjoy this instrument Patrick. It was a nice history written on the Custom-site too. I guess that's Mica's work? However than I come up with this question for Patrick: so this is not your first Alembic? But it is the first with the Grapes-inlay? I guess the name "Sonoma" is linked with that inlay. Nice work you all! Paul PS: Patrick, I don't know where you from. I guess US? Is your name from french origin or Belgian? You have to know that I know a Patrick Rondou (exactly same name) who live at the end of our road and he is a Ford-garage owner. Maybe he wants inlays of small wheels in Abalone for his Alembic ;-) |
