Flatattack,

Your bass is coming along nicely. I think I saw it at one of it's various stages a few weeks ago. So many bass I saw, it is hard to keep track.

I was curious about the neck width at the nut and the 24th fret. Someone in the club was working on custom neck deminsion, but I can't find it now, so I am not sure if it was you. The reason for my inquiry, is for a visual reference on different neck widths against the balance K body style.

Just think, your bass will be done before you know it, even though that doesn't seem true now.

Thanks,

Kevin K

thanks kevin- if you go to the dreamin posts scroll down to my flaxattack orders his custom and a lot of the dimensions are there. mica has a program that puts out the numbers
in general
32 scale
1.75 nut
.500 spacing
2.48" at 24th fret
edge distance .182 instead of .150
tight little sucker... lol

Thanks Jeff,

I guess you are the person that I was referencing. That is tight spacing.

So you are going to have a little more room to bend the B & G strings then normal I assume.

You really did exhaust alot of different neck deminsions. It is good reference material.

Thanks again & take it easy.

i have short fingers. and reaching across up the neck will be easier- it will take getting used too, but it will be lightening in my hands...
i hope
yes for the bending- i did the b side to keep it equal. sometimes i get pullover on the g
if i may recommend a dealer to work with
superbass is the man!
he clued me into a few things to make my bass even better- such as getting a shaved neck
i went so far as to buy a board and lay our the various spacing options

I must convince senior management that a new Alembic wouldn't be too bad of an idea.. that bass is just jaw dropping

Jeff,

(off topic mode)
How many cats do you have?? We've become the animal shelter annex with 4 ourselves, so I'm just curious.

(back on topic)

Cool looking bass so far, can't wait to see what Susan comes up with...although I'm sure it will be incredible!

ken-the inlay will be the wolf from jerry's guitar. the tribute wolf guitar for sale in the store was the prototype. mine will be made out of different materials. the wolf inlay was honestly an afterthought to make the bass more "mine". i picked up the phone and called susan. We discussed some ideas and then susan made me poop my pants when she said, you know jeff, a lot of people have been asking for that wolf for years, and i have resisted, but yes i will make it for you. her alternative was a wolf head backlit with yellow eyes. of course i couldnt afford that one. wish i could have sometimes- i happen to love wolves, just so happened jerry did too.

One of my most wonderful experiences was being invited on a hells angels ferry ride party here in ny. bo didley's band played as did jerry and merl. i sat 3 feet away from that wolf guitar while jerry noodled unplugged up in the bow. had a great discussion on sci-fi movies with him(true story) And being the bass player that i am- i went looking to see if i could throw john kahn overboard and come to the rescue of the band lol
here's the materials for the inlay
Ebony
Silver
red pearloid
Black Tahitian Mother of Pearl
White Mother of Pearl
Golden Agoya shell
Pink Ivory wood
just waiting on susan for some slight tweakings of her initial drawing

last thing i did was add/change the intials on the 24th fret from mine (JF) to DW
2 reasons
1- JF might have an advverse affect on resale(yea like i might sell it) value
2-its the bass's name
am toying with spelling out direwolf on the 24th fret but it might be $$$ prohibitive

Jeff,

I put my initials on my two Alembics, but they're not going to be resale prohibitive...they're elf-runes.

Since our digital camera is mostly used by my wife and daughter, I've probably got a half-million cat pictures that I could contribute to an "Alembicat" thread. (Sounds like a swing band name...)

what are elf-runes?
i figure if bb king has lucille on his guitar and not bb king- then who am i to put my intials on-lol
or not like those country singers that cant remember their names so the put them on the entire fretboard
