Hi Mica,
I was at Washington Music Center yesterday and a salesman saw me browsing through the most recent Bass Player magazine, the one with John on the cover. He claims that Alembic will be making an Entwistle Tribute bass (shape of the "Explorer" as he put it)....complete with the sterling silver cobwebs. Any truth to this?

Hi Stoney,

Saw your post and thought I'd answer it. The claim is true and Washington Music has a 4 and 8 string on order. Delivery should be in November.

They are limited editions, there will be 50
4- strings and 25 8-string basses. So far 12 of the 4's and 8 of the 8's are spoken for.

It will have the sterling silver web inlays in both points as well as an ebony and silver spider on the headstock. We will be posting full specs on them very soon. The models are called "Spyder-4" & "Spyder-8".

Cool Susan, thanks.

Hey Ken, sorry about the type-o in the last entry. The salesman's name is Todd Elliot, not Ellion.

Very nice. Will you also be making them with the pointed peghead?

The 8-strings have the pointed peghead. The 4-strings are with the "V" peghead.

Wow!!!!

That's the bass that started it all for me!!!!! I remember seeing John with that bass in the booklet that came with "The Kids Are Alright" album. Yes that's right, album!!!!!! Big, black vinyl disks w/ "grooves" in them. Shortly after that it was Stanley w/ his brown bass. Man I feel like a little kid again!!!! Thanks Mica for sharing that with us!!!

My mom and dad and I will be at Guitar Showcase in San Jose tomorrow around 1:00 to deliver the 8-string counterpart to this bass.

I hope whoever gets this set has a Fordasaurus or other large vehicle for transport - the cases are absolutely huge!

There hasn't been any more news on the Spiders for nearly two months and there's no reference to them on the main Alembic site. Are they available (if so, what cost?) or all sold out?

I absolutely love my Spyder bass, it's never in the case, it sits on a stand so I can look at it all day with glazed adoring eyes. I take it to gigs and the people in the crowd come up to the stage and gawk at it in disbelief and admiration of it's beauty. (At first I thought it was me, but they're really looking at the Spyder)
