What a striking combination of neck and body woods! I bet she'll sound luscious.

Thanks all! This is my first Alembic and I wanted a deep, rich sound and I wanted the woods to look good together. I wasn't really sure how the different woods would look together, but it came out even better than I expected.

Hey Graeme. I just took at look at your Rogue and it has some serious coco bolo swirls and really great contrast. One of the coco bolo classics!

The elves just informed me that my bass will be shipping shortly. I'm salivating already. I am sure she will sound as luscious as she looks. Thanks to all on the Alembic side for the great work, great advice and great vibes on this project.

It got it yesterday and played it for 4 hours straight. It looks, plays and feels great. A thing of great beauty. My wife named it "Purple Haze" because of the purple neck lams and the "hazy" coco bolo grain. I will probably post some pictures in the "Showcase" section. I'm trying to figure out if it belongs in the Elan section because of the Elan body shape or the Europa section because it is a Europa.

Congrats!!!

As for which section of the Showcase, I would suggest you go with what the serial number indicates.

Wow, great bass. I recently got my dream Elan bass, great basses, no?! So is the Elan shape only avaliable as a custom order now? why was it discontinued?

Again, lovely bass.

Cheers

Thanks Dave, it has a Europa serial number, so I'll post the pics in the Europa section.

Harvey, I agree, they are great basses and yes, it seems that they no longer make Elans. I don't know why they were discontinued. Does yours have the P-J config?

Harvey; I don't know how it's decided which models are offered in the catalogs and on the web page, perhaps they wish to keep the number of models down to a manageable level; but I think it's the case that, essentially, there's no such thing as a discontinued model. The serial number page shows that Elans were "offered" from 1985 to 1997; but my guess is you could probably custom order an Elan if you wanted a new one.

That makes sense, thanks Dave. Greg, Mine is quite similar to yours but with different electronics and a 6 string. You can find pictures of it here: http://photobucket.com/albums/v164/pedullaman/Vigier%20and%20Alembic/

I really love this bass, used it for the first time yesterday live at a jazz club and it sounded fantastic. I was a little worried that it sounded too much like a jazz bass but live, a whole new character emerges as the sound cuts through. Excellent bass!

Harvey, I like the ebony-maple neck lams on yours, they look really classy. I just used mine in a rehearsal and I found that it nailed that Jazz bass sound, but with a little tweaking I found a whole lot of sounds that aren't in the Jazz. Even my band mates were commenting on how much they liked the tones from that bass. I really love mine too, they are just great axes!

Beautiful bass... I'm GASing very hard for an Elan or spoiler of my own. This just fuels the Elan GAS.
