I'm assuming this one is finished by now.

Todd- if you happen to check in on this, give us an update. I loved watching the build process on this one.

sorry tbrannon- been on the road for a bit- no this one is not done yet though getting close says Mica. Like a fine whiskey( or some serious bbq'd brisket) this will be well worth a little wait- as is any Alembic I'm sure.

Sorry, I re-read the post. It is a low B. The picture fooled me, it looked a little bit thin. It should sound colossal!

Nice bass, Todd, way beyond custom!
That'll make quite an impact onstage, sonically and visually.

Congratulations Todd!

I have interest in the sound of this bass seriously. I want to hear, if possible.

I've really enjoyed reading the comments from everyone. The Alembic community seems quite attentive- and global ! HB3 and Toshiaki- its in transit now and no doubt I'll be going underground( to my bassment ) for a good while when it arrives but I'll try to figure out how to get a digital clip in here. If you have a copy of ELP's Works album laying about- Lake played an 8 string- you'll get the idea. Look for 1977 stuff- blurred in my memory but I think thats about right.

Hi Todd,

ELP's Works album is one of my favorite. And I'm a 89SC5460 8string player. So I have great interest in the sound of Lo-B and ebony neck laminate of your bass. Now I'm uploading my clips on MySpace for example. I'm looking forward to listening your clip.

10 string made it here in one piece and it looks great. The string layout plays better than I'd hoped- you guys really build a nice bass ! The density of this thing is remarkable- low end sounds like seismic chimes- kind of like a giant Steinway, and it feels like one hanging around my neck ! My sincere thanks again to all who worked on her.

Wow, that's an incredible beast of a bass!
I love ELP, and 'Works Live' is a favourite.
When you're back on earth, please infest the Showcase section with lots of pics and sounds if possible!

I just realized it was pretty late when I called.

Post here or email me back what you find after changing the battery. If the distortion you heard is the same in both pickups, that's the likely cause.

If after you change the battery you find the distorted sound is only in one pickup, then the problem will probably be in one of the filters.

I will check my email again in about an hour. Tomorrow I've got an appointment from 11:00-12:00, but I'll be here the rest of the day. If you call in earlier, ask for Ron, my dad.

this is where I proclaim for all to hear- that I am the south end of a north bound donkey- a battery buldging at the bottom - though in my defense - my 1st Alembic- found four batteries whose voltage was fine- but a 5th was hidden below ! thx for calling so fast Mica .

Glad to hear the battery was the culprit. Keep in mind that when the cable is plugged in, even if the pickup selector is in stand-by, the battery is draining. We use so many batteries here, that we do run across defective ones.

If second the battery drains this fast, let me know.

Todd,
The four batteries are to power the LEDs. The single in the eletronics cavity powers the preamps/filters.
