Here's the peghead veneers in clamps: Chip had your top in the press, so I couldn't take a photo of it tonight. |

Here's the body, before the top laminate is in place: I'll get more photos soon with the top lamination. |

Here's the bass in carving/rounting: It's got some of the carving completed, and it's now ready to route. Then the rest of the carving and it's on its way to the spray booth. |

That top is absolutely killer & those neck laminates are quickly becoming my favorite visual combination. Beautiful bass! |

Valentino told me you wanted to see a closer picture of the fingerboard. I actually took one when I posted on the 20th, because it's so beautiful. But the photo was blurry when I went to post. So here's a new one I took today: And I also took this one with the routing done: I used a flash to hopefully show more of the wood figure. It makes the Vermilion look alarmingly bright, and while it's got good color, it's not so saturated as the photo implies. |

Your bass beat Michael's guitar into finish, so you get the first peek at the transformation with the sealer:

What is that combination of neck laminates anyway? The top of this bass is simply outrageous. Lucky stiff! <g> |

Thanks for the kind words! One question. Should I leave the neck alone, or add inlays??? |

Quite possibly the most beautiful Alembic I've ever seen, and the slimmed down body is perfect. Majestic. Since you asked, I believe it should have oval inlays to finish the classic Alembic look, but the board can certainly stand on its own. I suggest you pose that same question to Susan and follow her preference. T |

With the wood you have for that fretboard, I'd keep it as clean as possible, just go with side markers (bad enough you put frets in it :-) If you really want inlays, I'd keep them as simple as possible, since there is already so much going on with the various woods. Maybe even something really weird, like ebony circles... |

I'm with Bob. That board is beautiful. I'd leave it free of distractions. |

Holy smokes, that is one stunning bass! It's a particular inspiration to me 'cause I'm planning on ordering my second custom soon -and it will have several similar features including (hopefully) a coco bolo top, but most definitely a neck with purpleheart, maple, mahogany, and ebony in it. Yeah, it's A+s all across the board... top, back, neck and shape. Speaking of which, that's a custom shape, right? It looks sort of like a cross between the new Balance K and the older series basses... |

Not an expert, but it looks like a custom body Balance Point bass. But the upper horn looks a little longer then previous Balance Point basses. And the body looks a little smaller then std body size, but it does look larger then 3/4 body size. Beautiful wood. Beautiful Bass. |

P.S. I agree with the gang that you should either leave the fingerboard alone -or consider a minimalistic alternative like single SMALL dots for position markers... of either MOP or possibly a slightly contrasting wood... |

About a month or so ago, hifiguy asked 'What is that combination of neck laminates anyway?'. I'd be really keen to know and also to know what tones/sounds this combination will give. Graeme |
