Wow, Jim, that top is COMPLETELY out of control. Once it's sanded and finished this is going to be one of the all time great Alembic quilt tops. Already it reminds me of wind on water. Which would make a cool name for a Featured Custom, methinx.

Hey thanks, Hifi! Every time I look at it (which is so often I'm embarrassed) I love it more!

Hi Mica,

Apparently, a little bird told someone that my MK5 is in finishing? If you get the chance to snap a pic or two I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Not quite in finishing, but recently routed. Routing is sort of a subset of carving. You can see there's more carving and fine sanding to go:
tussing_carve5.jpg

Won't be too much longer 'till it's in the finish department.

Hey Mica, My latest carve pics have come up missing. Can you please replace them when you get the chance?

Thx!

Well darn, I thought we'd seen the last of these hiccups. But Since I know exactly when I posted those, I think I've since corrected the problem, so maybe now we've seen the last of not seeing posted pics (it's also why there was a double post!).

Anywhoo, here's the picture again:

Uh oh. Mica, I just realized something. I think we're missing a switch here! Since I have anniversary electronics and side LEDs, I think there should be the following:

1/4" jack
Stereo / Mono switch by the jack
Q switch x2
LED switch
4-way pickup selector with stand-by
two volume knobs
two LP Filter knobs

Am I missing something? If not, what can we do about it?

Thanks!

Also, could you please do a very quick mockup (text is ok) of which controls are what? I think that would help this discussion a lot (and I could fantasize more accurately).

Thanks!

Hi Jim,

I know I'm not Mica, but maybe I can help :-)

I know that on mine they didn't drill the stereo/mono switch until close to the end of the build. Also, I was thinking about an LED switch, and they said it would go in later, too, so I think yours is normal for this stage of production.

As to layout, let me try this...

........................selector
jack....bridge vol..........neck vol
....................bridge Q...........neck Q
........bridge lpf ......... neck lpf

Hope this helps,

Charles

P.S. That has got to be the most stunning piece of quilt I've ever seen. I bet it is going to explode when the finish hits it! MMMMM!

Hey Paul,

Can't wait to watch your bass being built. Yes, mine is a balance K on a five string.

Me & da fam will be in Princeville next week! I hope it doesn't snow!

Mica,

Per our conversation (and for the benefit of those listening), the reason soon-to-be-my bass one hole short is that the LED switch is never drilled by program, but only by hand. So what we see here is the Anniversary drill pattern sans one LED switch.

Let that be a lesson to all you out there! Doubt the Mothership at your own peril! :-)

Peace.

And Charles, thanks a ton you were exactly right! Appreciate the thoughts on the maple. I was stunned when I first saw it. I almost asked for it going through the online QM woodpile but when I saw the piece of wood was added in 2004 I thought it couldn't possibly still be there. I almost pooped when I saw that Mica & Susan had picked it for me. I know - TMI.... :-)

Thanks & regards,
Jim

Wuh-HOW! Thank you so much, Alembic and thanks everyone for the gasps! I'm in Princeville on Kauai at the moment and the only thing I have to look at this on is my Crackberry. Even at hideously low resolution I've already very nearly had a couple accidents of a hygenic nature staring at these pictures. Bias notwithstanding this is simply the most beautiful piece of art I've ever seen.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post these for me. Mica and Susan, thank you so much for your top wood selection!

Peace,
Jim

Thanks much for taking your valuable time to provide these pics and thanks yet again Mica and Susan for the very lively choice of topwood!!!

Man Jim,

I sure hope my Quilted Coco Bolo comes out nice because I had your Maple on order before I changed to QCB. That is nice bro. Good on! Just to sit and look at something that nice while you are playing must Stoke the heck outta ya. I can't imagine the sound.

Without going and looking up everything, what's the major difference in the Anniversary and the Series if you got time to answer me? If not, don't worry, I know you are on your vacation. I can look it up but I thought you might want to describe to me what you are expecting as far as sound difference goes.

I stayed at the Coconut Palms for my wedding anniversary back in 1983 but I understand it is closed down now. Have you seen it yet? It's near the Fern Grotto ride.

I also backpacked the Napali Coastline back in the Seventy's. I hiked in to the 12 mile beach then had Red's helicopter service pick me up and fly me out 3 days later. Had no cell phones then. Just planned it. Beautiful trek!

How long are you staying?

Aloha, Paul
