When you special order, you can specify your pickup placement, like on Bill's Brown Bass.

I like the pup like Bill's bass, although I don't know how it would sound.

It should sound similar to the pickup position in your own 1976 Series I bass. Obviously a Brown Bass will not have the same tone as your bass, considering the different materials, pickups and electronics, but there will be similarities based on the pickup position.

As a general rule, the closer the neck pickup is to the center of the string (closer to the fingerboard), the bassier it will sound.

So Bill's Brown Bass would sound more similar to your bass than Pierre's.

I chose the "neckward" positioning for the neck pickup in order to make my bass sound a bit bassier and because I don't slap enough to justify moving the pickup away from the neck to give me extra room.
