Nice top Toby. You're going to be pretty happy sometime soon. Signature electrics?

The flame on the series exploiter in the background looks pretty special too.

Chuffed indeed Charles- as you know, this one's been in the planning stages for awhile.

I agree on the flame top Elwood- it surpasses what was hoping for, much less expecting.

Correct on the signature setup Graeme.

That is one of the best looking tops I've seen on any Alembic, from any type of wood. I can hardly wait to see the rest of it!

FC- glad you checked in. As a fellow Elan fan I was hoping you'd see this.

Thanks Eric- I'm kind of awed by the piece and how well the flame matches up with the mahogany they chose for the body. It will be getting a honey/amber color added, so it should just accentuate that flame when it's all done.

Thanks again for the picture Mica. I know how busy you all are there. Very kind of you to make the time to do this.

Is that an ebony stringer in the neck...very classy contrast ...those will be some strong notes.

(...must sell things and order new instruments says the brain...)

Congratulations Toby! I'm glad to see that you're getting the custom Elan you've been wanting. I like the look of the P/J setup and you know it'll sound sweet. That flame maple is gorgeous!

Thanks Reid- your wineburst Elan was what got me started on my dream and Joey's recent custom Elan pushed me over the edge. I'm looking forward to seeing this one once a bit of the color hits it.

Hey Toby, that's really cool. I know I just about "had a cow" when I saw Joey's Green Machine the first time; maybe the second and third times, too. Your's is going to look mah-ve-lus when that Amber hits it. I'll be watching!

The single Ebony lam is a great idea! That along with the pickups, electronics, body style, and that btc flame make this a really unique bass!

Thanks Charles- I'm sure you understand how I'm feeling right now. The progress shots on your bass probably floored you each time you saw an update (I know they floored me!)- that's what's happening with this one for me. It's all I had hoped for and more.

I 'borrowed' the single neck lam idea from the Orion that Eric had built.

I asked for a 'honey' finish... something a little darker, more amber/orange than the normal amber finish. Looking at the overspray on the neck tape I'd say they hit the ball out of the park on the color.

Looking sharp, Toby-I can't wait to see it reach completion.

I love the top and the neck lams.

It's getting closer, now it's rubbed out, just patiently waiting for it's turn on the setup bench:

Ooops! This one was from last week:
rubbed out

This is after the final coat of finish is "rubbed out" and before the bass is buffed.

Awesome!! Thanks Mica.

When it's time to ship can you shoot me an email and confirm delivery day? My wife and I have a few busy weeks ahead and I want to make sure it arrives on a day when somebody will be home.

Absolutely! We will always confirm that someone will be home for delivery before we ship. Additionally, the package is marked for the service "adult signature only" so that they can't be tempted to merely leave it on the doorstep.
