Nice! I was just thinking the other day what the Skylark would look like with Walnut or Coco Bolo. Looks great.

Yes, I'm thinking a Skylark (with 23.5" scale!), built with Tribute woods (maybe with fewer layers to the sandwich to shave some cost, but definitely with maple core and coco bolo top and back), with standard Skylark electronics. (After all, the Tribute is JERRY'S guitar, you know?) Walnut's a cool choice, too--looks good! Warmoth does a bolt-on (ack!) Jerry body with a walnut top.

Wow ...this guitar seems to "sound" already without strings. Can you imagine what it's going to give WITH strings and electronics

Did you have to get a double thick piece of Walnut for the top Bishop for the carving to work?

try this link, http://www.alembic.com/prod/skylark.html.
doesn't give the actual thickness, just states "double".

love the walnut choice

Yea, Ive eyed up the Skylark for quite some time. I love the shape and the feel of it. I would probably have done Walnut too. I hope we get to see it when its done.

I know with the Tributes that if you want to keep the carved top you need a double thick top, hence its own thread in the wood section with double thick cocobolo bookmatches. I figured it was the same for the Skylark.

Mica is a better source, I just feel guilty addressing her since shes a one woman jack of all trades who is saintly in her patience with answering peoples questions.

Our standard top laminate in 1/4" so the double thick ones on the Skylark (and Tribute) are 1/2". You need the double thickness so the roundover on the Skylark or the deep carving on the Tribute still shows some walnut at the edge of the guitar.

The top looks great, figured it was double thick like the Tribute. Thats a nice piece of walnut too. You guys know how to pick em.

Well, pictures throughout the finish process don't show too much changes, but here is the guitar with all the finish, ready for rubout:

Q's Skylark RTR

Considering the workload in the rubout and setup departments, I'm estimating we'll be shipping this guitar next week.

Really nice!
It's so "essential" as a guitardesign and so "complete" at the same time. I guess it's that superb wood design.
Enjoy the playing!

I have been enjoying it all weekend. It's wonderful. I let a friend of mine see it. He's a devoted fan of another bass company. We often engage in friendly debates concerning Alembic and the other company. After seeing the Skylark he had to admit that it is beautiful. We went to the guitar shop because he was considering the purchase of another of the brand name that he currently owns. He said that he was unimpressed with the bass after seeing the skylark. He didn't get to hear it!! I think he finally realizes that I haven't been playing Alembics for over ten years for nothing. Still I don't think he'll ever switch.

That is a nice looking guitar. The walnut really looks great when its carved like that. I was playing a Skylark not too long ago and I was speaking to my friend about what it would be like with walnut or coco bolo instead of the flame maple painted look, from the looks of yours its clear that the walnut makes a great top on these. Congrats on the guitar. Cant go wrong with a custom Alembic.

Thanks for the positive vibes guys. I am excited and proud to own this guitar. It is well worth the wait. I'm glad that I got what I wanted and not settled for what was available. It makes me feel good about the purchase. All Alembics are noteworthy, but custom Alembics are a wonderful thing.
