Here's a few pictures I've collected along the way. Note that the Quilted Maple is totally awesome. You'll see it soon enough when the finish hits it. Future top laminate: Future back laminate: Neck getting peghead scarf glued: Bob holding the cut he made for the continuous wood backplate: Peghead shape rough cut: Bass is ready for the top laminate:

And for this week, the blackness: and up close: It looks so nice in person, the pictures really can't describe it well at all. Where is Pierre-Yves? |

Does this finish have a name already? I'd propose "charcoal sheen". |

When you see something this curvy, and colored "in the key of of black" it looks are dangerously alluring, and it also makes a very seductively powerful bass to want, touch, and hold. This bass, will dominate attention over anything within 100ft of its area. That's powerful! |

That is a VERY nice wood and stain combination. I especially like the way the stain works with the maple and purpleheart intersection. Beautiful! What type of hardware is being installed? -Jon |

a short scale with MK body ? ok !! tu as donc la basse de tes rêves, espéront que le manche tienne ses promesses ! On ne voit pas la différence de proportion, le body a été réduit un peu ? |

I got to sing... Cha goonn goon goon... "That old black magic has me in its spell, that old black magic that you weave so well. Those icy fingers up and down my spine That same old witchcraft when your eyes meet mine. The same old tingle that I feel inside, and then that elevator starts its ride And down and down I go, round and round I go, like a leaf that's caught in the tide..." YEAH! |

Wonderful finish, color, wood - I am in awe of the workmanship and will have to commission one very soon. Toma hawk - your picture above looks very similar to my Flamed Maple 74 Series I which weighs under 8 lbs - what is that gorgeous back the back of? |

Thank you Tod, This bass is a 1976 series 1 shorty. People laugh at me (even here) but I wax it down with extra virgin olive oil. I use it on my skin too. I don't ware belt buckles on the front... This keeps the bass "ding-free" too. Also, This Black Bass is such a treat to see. At FTC, if I see a instrument that strikes my vocal cords, I have to sing... It means, it fits me to a "t". I been singing a lot lately. But, I do this with the joy in my lungs and heart. It makes me feel great to see others happy. It's what I wake up for... to see the magic and the splendor of anticipation. It's like when I was a child, my friends and I would gather up and look through the window of great toys we wish and say someday... Well, for these folks, that someday is now! Those Lucky so-and-so's!!! (Message edited by toma_hawk01 on August 07, 2009) |

Yoo hoo! There's an almost secret inlay on your bass now: From some angles, it almost disappears, and then others, it is alive with fire. Great looking shell, and I hope you still love the font. |

Your bass is in rubout, so it's looking a little hazy right now: But shiny it will get sometime next week (except of course the back of the neck). |

To my eyes the blend of the translucence of the colour with the figure in the wood is perfect. I like the results! I think the chrome hardware works well in contrast. NICE BASS ! My congratulations to the lucky new owner. |

Fantastic! Many thanks to all people at the Alembic factory to have made my dream come true! I love that bass! The quilt is beautiful! Like an invitation to swim on it!!! And the black stain was a big bet, but the result is stunning! I'm happy to have chosen the chrome hardware. Its very nice in contrast! Thanks again for all! Cheers! |
