That's a good looking bass and coming together quickly. It almost looks like the body is fully finished. Are they putting on a few clear layers before the black to help if you want to see the koa at some point in the future, is that just some sort of wipe to show the wood better for the pic, or something else? Odd to see just a single piece of ebony with no purpleheart or other "supporting" strips. I wonder if it will be as thunderous in this config? Either way. the double courses should ring beautifully. -bob | ||

The experts say the sustain will be formidable. Sealer coat before finish I believe. The middle pup will have its own vol and tone, the rest is dual fatboy with Europa guts and the must have, leds. The ability to blend in another tone with the other circuit should lend itself to a greater advantage when finding just the right sound for a tune. Also the crushing sound of everything full on. When your maxed, where can you go? Third pickup see. Gives you the edge. One more pickup! Don't point at it. In fact don't even look at it. | ||

Danno- so what you're saying is that the 3rd pickup takes it up to 11? =) On a serious note- you said the 3rd pickup will have a volume and 'tone' control. Is it going to be a filter that is always on...? | ||

As far as I know, like an Essense. I always leave the q switches on. My band isn't subtle so no need for that kind of finesse adjustment. | ||

thats a good choice with the third pickup and on my new design I am working on I also have choosen to do a third pickup but I am taking it one step further than that, sorry don't mean to tease you will just have to see, but I will tell you this it will be another first! good luck Danno thats a beauty you got going there! I wonder if any one has a flat back Alembic in the style of some of the hot rods you see with lo-fi flat black almost spray painted look? Seen alot of "rock-a-billy" types into cars like that and really wonder how that look would translate to a bass???? | ||

I always liked a blue pearl added to the clear coat over black. Gives off an awesome deep-blue (sometimes purple) when the light hits it just right. OO | ||

Planning for the controls next week! Thats the beauty and non beauty of a one off. Must be worked out before hand. As an off topic tribute, I went as a guest of Lamb of God last week in NYC. Amazing show, super tight and crushing performances. If you like this genre of music the new album is great. http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1534576340?bctid=12298701001 But the above and beyond award goes to Children of Bodom's guitarist/singer Alexi Laiho. This guy played and sang with a broken shoulder, bruised ribs, recovering from internal bleeding. He managed to get through 3 or 4 songs of very technical and heavy material. Danno- I have a quick qestion for you. Isn't using these types of basses that have all the nuances and tonal variety a little overboard for heavy metal (yes I know about Burton and Newsted)? I grew up on punk rock/hardcore music and you have got to be one of the only guys around playing this kind of music on these basses. I mean no disrespect at all, just curious as to why you decided on alembic. By the way, have you ever heard of Kinghorse? Colin | ||

I'm just a lover of Alembic. Before joining this band I played progressive, fusion, heavy and covers. I started doing the 5's because a 6 wasn't needed and I don't believe in having a low four and a regular four and switching between the two. Black is the color of this genre and I happen to like the look. I get the comfort of Alembic performance and its precision and they just suit me above everything else I've owned. They also keep their tune better than anything I've come across. I sing backups on every tune so my bass is one less thing to think about during the gig. This 10 is for my inspiration and I think it will work well in a 3pc-frontman situation. The third pickup can be dialed in for any added tone that will compliment the main circuit. Sometimes you play a place and your have to really adjust the sound to the place or even for the soundman who has his habits. Also sometimes the bandmates hear things differently so I can accommodate as needed. Quick changes via the Europa/Distillate package comes in handy. Our songs have more tunings now but I can still use one bass on a gig. Not to sound like an ad but I can play whatever I want and I choose (and pay) Alembic. Too bad they don't do endorsements but they are like an extension of my musical family since 1986. I haven't heard of Kinghorse but I'll look them up. | ||

Kinghorse was one of the best (genre?) bands I ever saw. They only had one major album on Caroline records that was produced by Danzig. | ||
