Sorry for the ignorance, but what would a 1/2 step down tuning be? Got me curious! Thanks, Greg |

For a 4 string, it would be Eb, Ab, Db, Gb. SRV, Hendrix, and many others frequently used this tuning. |

Thanks Kevin. That's what I thought it was... I guess I'll have to give it a try then! Greg |

I use heavy strings, tune low, play hard and floor it. Floor it. That's technical talk. —SRV |

So izz like ham? No? Or izz like deezze boyz? Tuner is a must. Every gig is in a loud venue, even the dressing rooms are loud. Lately when we open for a larger well known group, we only get 1 shot at winning over a new crowd. You never want to be the guy who didn't have his stuff together. You'd never hear the end of it. Geet eeet? Roberto e Smith con El Cure! |

I remember once (early 1980's) when at a gig at a local venue( The Tower ,in Brisbane ,Ca.) where I was in the '' house band "we had "guest performers" sit in quite a bit. One time there was a guitar player that had talked our 'FEARLESS LEADER" into letting him do a whole set of SRV tunes. This guy was a real SRV purist so the first thing he told me was that I had to tune down a half step to accommodate the original arrangements. I like very high string tension in my Bass set-up but also i do not like my action too high . At that gig I just happened to have taken a bass that was strung with strings that were "90-40 extra light " to experiment with bass chords. Those strings turned into 'WET NOODLES " tuned down a half step! If I would have known that the SRV guy was going to sit in I would have taken a Bass strung with heavier strings! Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains uses 1/2 step tuning exclusively but also drops it sometimes, it's definitly a tuning worth " flirting" with ~Taylor |

I use the 1 bass but the guitarist brings at least 3 axes. 1 for reg drop 1/2 step down, 1 for drop D 1/2 step down and regular low C tuing not 1/2 step down. I just play it all on my 5 string. I sometimes bring a spare bass, just in case but have yet to need to switch. Unless I hit the lottery, there will be no spare for the 10'er. |

A snapshot of your bass in all its blackness: Still just hanging out in the final cure for rubout, but it's already bad. |

Looking forward to the completion but not anxious. Now with some more intricate instruments nearing completion, the work can continue on us simpler folk. Happy to only have snow in Jersey and not mudslides. Now for some tea and a debate with myself on when to fire up the snowblower. |

Same here: Looking forward to the completion but not anxious. (that's for my bass, also a black 3 pickup monster) Lots of snow and just starting on my second cup of tea (after work) They had some black paint left, almost enough for the body and the front of the headstock :-) Hoping to see some new pics of your 10-er soon, royal badness indeed :-) |

I'm watching for pictures of anybody's progress to put off deciding whether to fire up the snowblower before fixing the cracked wall from last night's earthquake. (Earthquake?!?!? I thought I lived in Illinois! What is this nonsense?!?!) A cup of tea sounds nice. Peter (who lives about 10 miles from the epicenter - a phrase I never expected to write) |

My wife and I are planning to call her folks tonight and razz them about the earthquake this evening. It feels good to be able to give them back a little of what they gave to us all those years we lived in California (where a 3.8 wouldn't even get you out of bed). Now out to survey the tree that fell on my house and truck an hour or so ago. Keith |

What's almost funny, is that a couple of weeks ago, here in California, we had a funnel cloud pass over our neighborhood. Cool bass, Danno!! I'm eagerly watching this one too! |

Nice bass going to be versatile with all that pickup power! |

After a second pass at the flaky precip, I got a call that I will be off on Thursday as well. I'll take it but I feel it erring on the side of caution. I celebrated with more tea and playing my 6 string Spoilers in turn and gave the Europa 5 some attention as well. Thursday will be black bass attention time. I also visited iTunes, Chris Squire, Holdsworth live, Glass Hammer, Jonas Hellborg and Life of Agony. I'm learning to deal with GAS in small ways while I wait. Strings, iTunes and looking here and at ebay. Give me strength, I wanted to bid on a Zon legacy 6! |

That Zon is sexy! Ebay is such a cruel drug. Your 10 string is going to be something else mate - much more entertaining than just another 6'er. |

Off for winter break. The GAS attack is gonna be fierce! Planning on QiGong, Taiji Jian sword class, gym, practicing and at least 1 trip to Harlem for chicken n' waffles. I hear Amy Ruth's is bangin'! And I can't forget at least one trip to Steve's Sizzling Steak on 17 in Joisey. What we must do to stay off ebay while we wait for our new babies to arrive. Perhaps I should meditate too? |

Yes, I agree... It's easy to "not-trip" on the progress of the bass, when you got plenty to do. I get this feeling of emptiness when the Holiday's approach, and "my plate of things to do" to keep your mind off the progress of my bass, gets empty. Just today, I went to Home Depots and bought (2) palm trees and (9) Philodendron plants, just to keep me busy during my 3 days off. My Neighbors next door, asked if my wife and I wanted to join them in the new life celebration of their new Grand Son. It even gets to a point, where I pray not to think about the progress of my bass because it gets me too anxious to slightly think about it (because I want it so badly...). I am done with pictures. Showing pictures is like a teasing a small kid with candy. It's got to a point now, I don't want to see any more pictures and that's bad... I a don't even want to draw it anymore. I say these things, because when I speak the truth about what is going on inside, I feel free. I feel better, and I am poised, cool, calm and collected again to say: "BRING ON THE PAIN... I CAN TAKE ANOTHER YEAR IF I HAVE TO..." LOL!!!! When Mica finally calls me to get my bass, I'll probably wait a few days or act like it was no sweat, and it was only a dream. I might ask my wife to pinch me to see if I am dreaming of those heavenly words. LOL!!! Hang in there baby! (Message edited by the_jester on February 12, 2010) |

"When Mica finally calls me to get my bass, I'll probably wait a few days or act like it was no sweat" Yeah, Right! When Mica told me my last bass was on it's way to Scotland I was clicking the 'track your parcel' link every 10 minutes for the 3 days it took to get here. Graeme |

I've been through this process 8 times before and this is the ninth plus 2 refinishes. The only non special orders were a Distillate 5 and a Red Skylark, oh and shirts, hats and strings. Gotta help grow the brand people. Its all part of the experience that adds to the joy of owning one of these instruments. However long it takes, I'm good with it. The pleasure I get from each bass never diminishes. A rare thing in the times we live in, produced by a rare family of artists in a place I've never visited. |

To every thing, turn, turn, turn, There is a season, turn, turn, turn, And a time to every purpose under heaven A time to be born, a time to die A time to plant, a time to reap A time to kill, a time to heal A time to laugh, a time to weep To everything, turn, turn, turn, There is a season, turn, turn, turn, And a time to every purpose under heaven A time to build up, a time to break down A time to dance, a time to mourn A time to cast away stones A time to gather stones together To everything, turn, turn, turn, There is a season, turn, turn, turn, And a time to every purpose under heaven A time of love, a time of hate A time of war, a time of peace A time you may embrace A time to refrain from embracing To everything, turn, turn, turn, There is a season, turn, turn, turn, And a time to every purpose under heaven A time to gain, a time to lose A time to rend, a time to sew A time to love, a time to hate A time for peace, I swear it's not too late |
