It took three of use to decide where to place the peghead veneer, it's such an interesting piece of wood:

Veneers for the continuous wood plate assortment before assembly:

You'll only see one of these surfaces on the finished plates, but you'll be happy to know they are all in there!

She looks fantastic! Watching the progress is only serving to whet my appetite even more (if that's possible). Any more cool looking shots lurking in the shop?

That's an incredible piece of coco-bolo - love the figuring. The flame maple in the neck is superb too, and are those vermillion stringers? What a beautiful combination.

Here's some inlay pieces:
inlays
In this picture, they are awaiting filing from Kris to make them smooth.

A few days later:
inlays

inlays

The inlays are in the board, smothered in glue and drying. The shell is a beautiful high-color flash, and you can't really see it for the glues.

Now your guitar is fretted and back in spray, so we'll have to wait until it's curing to see the final result.

So with all the finish on, she doesn't look that much different from before:
rubout

Still it's nice to know that part is done. Now we are just waiting for the final cure and the road case to arrive.

Hi fellow Alembicians and dear friends,

I write you all today with sobering news; I have been diagnosed with a severe case of AAAS: Acute Alembic Anticipation Syndrome. Since I've learned that my guitar is only a few mere weeks from completion all of my thoughts, both conscious and subconscious, are about it. Two nights ago I dreamed that the inlays along the neck were replaced by the pieces from the 1970's era pop-up game Perfection, and if I didn't play Flight of the Bumblebee within 30 seconds I had to pick the pieces up off the floor, reinsert them, and try again. Last night I dreamed that, like King Tantalus, whenever I reached for my guitar it shrank away just out of reach.

I hope that the impending delivery of my instrument can cure me of this horrible affliction. Until then, if any of you suffer from this dreadful disease, or have suffered from it in the past, any advice is welcomed.

I feel for you Patrick! It seems to me that you have only 3 choices, 1) Check yourself into a hospital & have them put you in a medically induced coma until your Alembic arrives, 2) Get on a plane immediately & fly to Santa Rosa, stop by Wal Mart & buy you a one man tent (there's not much room on the lawn at the factory for a large tent!) & camp out at the Mothership so you can visit your baby every day until it is finished, or 3) Accept the fact that there is only one real cure for this affliction & that the nightmares will continue until you hear the knock on the door by the UPS driver! A word of advice - once you get the news from the Mothership that the water has broke & your baby is on the way, resist the urge to use the magic 18 digit key to consult the gods of Brown to try to ascertain the aproximate location of the object of your desire, for they will lure you into a false sense of security with many "Arrival" & Departure" notations assuring you that your package is getting closer to you. Then on the final day, they will speak the words you have longed to hear, yet they will increase the affects of your affliction a hundred fold, the evil "Out For Delivery!" These are Medusa words & if you read them, you turn to stone! Your life becomes a Matrix movie & everything around you freezes! You will want to run up & down the streets searching in vain for the blessed Brown Truck, but you can't because you have been turned to stone & your Matrix world is frozen in time. The 8-10 hour delivery window becomes an eternity & yours will undoubtedly be the last delivery of the day for your driver! I know these things to be true because I too suffered from AAAS in February & I foolishly looked into the mind of the Brown gods & received the dredded OFD message which rendered me completely useless at work! I had to take a half day vacation to go home & wait for the knock on my door! Thankfully my bass arrived at 2:30, not 5:30 like most of my UPS packages! But then I had to wait an hour & a half for my wife to come home & video tape me opening the box! I know none of this really helps your condition, but I will say that when your instrument does arrive, all of the anguish you are feeling right now will be well worth it!!! Just like a mother forgets the pain of childbirth the instant she holds her baby in her arms, you will be completely cured of AAAS the instant you open the case! Good luck & I hope the time passes quickly for you!

I think I'm going to make you wait to see the back until you actually open the case. You need some surprise, right?

Beautiful Further. The inlays are sweet. In the pics they actually look 3-dimensional like they are protruding above the fretboard. And the Coco Bolo on a Further looks fabulous. I've typically only seen them in Maple, but IMHO this looks even better than on a Tribute.

This past Tuesday I celebrated my birthday, and as a present to myself I arranged to have my three best friends/bandmates from my college days come into town and run through some of our old numbers. My beautiful new guitar made its debut, too, and fun was had by all.
