I have a question & challenge to the moderators of our fine forum....would it be possible to create a page with all the members listed & sorted by the area they live in? Maybe create a "Members" section with sub pages for each state or country That would make it easier to meet fellow Alembic players in our area & easier to set up gatherings. Do you know how many members we have in the club? Forgive me if this is an impossible task, I just thought it would be nice to be able to look up members in our area. Rusty |

Rusty, that's a great idea!!! Maybe they could get several members to work on it as a project? If I had the time, I'd volunteer... |

Flip did a great job compiling info on most of the Alembics that have been built over the years, maybe he will take on this project. |

Rusty , I am not a moderator, so please forgive me for jumping in , but some folks like to be "behind the scenes" and not for covert reasons but to have a feeling of security and safety. For that reason and others I do not necessarily think that a mandatory "Master location list" would be within every ones comfort zone. Some folks just like to be a" free bird " __ LOL ___! It's like making all the birds hang out on one Pine tree to be counted . Some birds might like a Redwood tree or a Walnut or Oak. Regimentation could shy some folks away. |

Hey Wolf, I can respect that. I was leary about posting on Facebook that I had a new Alembic for fear that someone might break into my house & steal it, so I didn't announce it when I got mine. But after my 1st gig with the bass, pictures were posted, & a fellow musician commented about my new Alembic, so the cat was out of the bag. I have noticed that some members do not include their location in their profile, so it would be impossible to include those on any kind of list, but perhaps those who do list a location wouldn't mind being on a list with other members in their area. I would even be happy with just a list of all the members names without locations to see how many of us are here. |

I'm a "Friend of Laphroaig" single malt scotch. As such, I'm entitled to a tiny plot of land on the distillery's property. Some people want to reveal their name and country to the owners of neighboring plots; some don't. I would think if an Alembic registry as envisioned by Rusty were to be strictly voluntary it should satisfy everyone. Personally, I'd love to meet you ALL! -Sam |

Thanks Sam! I don't want to open a can of worms, but, like you, I'd like to meet everyone too, or at least Alembic players in my area! I have only played 2 Alembics in my life, my 80's Series 1, & my current SC Signature Deluxe, so I would love to play other models to see how they compare. Then when I win the Lottery I will know what my next Alembic will be! LOL! |

Rusty, My intensions are just in the best interest of shelter for those individuals that are leery of spammers and hackers on the internet and such. I too would like meet my fellow Alembic players. Cyberspace is the new barbary coast these days. I had a great time meeting folks at our gathering. Sam and Kimberly ,Harry and Donald and Ken and everyone else. I had fun jamming with Bill tgo and I met and Jammed with Henry Kaiser and the Doctor from the East Coast and many others. I think Sam has a good idea in a voluntary list. For those not on the list it is like the movie "Field of Dreams"; if you have a gathering they will show up magically and enjoy the experience. Wolf AKA Sonicus |

Hey Wolf, I completely understand & absolutely don't want to do anything to disrespect anyone's privacy. I am a very private person too. I think a voluntary list is a great idea! If we can get the moderators to create a Members category on the main page, then when you click on it, list all the states & countries then people can click on their area & make a post with their name or screen name & where they live if they choose to. Of course, that could turn out to be a huge category depending on how many countries are represented, so I'm not sure if the forum has a size limit for threads. There would need to be a rule to only post your info you want public & only post one time. In other words, I would post my name & info on the Texas page & not make any further posts or comments on any other pages so they would stay clean & only for the purpose of listing our info. Kind of like an Alembic phone book, but you can choose how much of your info you want to share. |

I've always wanted to say something like "I have a little piece of land in Scotland"! In a similar vein, there is a town in Pennsylvania called "Intercourse" (really, no B.S.). There is some enterprising guy who sells foot long plots of land and sends you a document certifying ownership of "12 inches of Intercourse" Bill, tgo |

Hey Bill To become a "Friend of Laphroaig", just buy a bottle then log onto Laphroaig's website and provide the bottle number. That's it! When you go to the distillery on Islay they'll provide you with "treasure hunter" directions (300 paces north/400 paces east, etc.) and a pair of Wellingtons to wear in the muddy field where your plot is located. You can even plant a miniature flag to mark your spot. Did I mention your plot is only about 12" square? -Sam |
