I'll be playing for the third time with these guys on Thursday night. Wolf (Sonicus) will be joining us for the second time. Since the group has no name, I've taken to calling it "The Pros From Dover". (Two brownie points to anyone who gets the reference - double points if you're under 40). The "Pros" are a stone cold jam band. Lots of Grateful Dead with some Band, Dylan, and similar era material. Lots of improv - songs go 7-15 minutes. We'll be at the Parkway Lounge on Park Blvd. in Oakland, 8:30 to around 11:30 or so. A real dive bar and a real slice-o-life!

Have a great gig, guys!

I'll be playing Woody, my custom Further again. The place is quite dark and the LEDs really come in handy, especially when I'm singing and using peripheral vision.

Bradley gets the brownie points!

I have been recording these sessions in CD quality. Is there a way to post it so you guys can check it out? I'd love to get some feedback. Do I have to convert to mp3? (yuchhh). I've noticed some talk around here about "soundcloud". Is that how I can post the recordings?

I've just started using soundcloud and it's pretty spiffy, imho..

Love to hear the recordings, Bill!

Let me know when the tour comes to Texas! Bill, I can convert your recordings to MP3 if you want me to. Do you have Dropbox? You can put the files in there & I can convert them & send them back to you.

I have various means to do it as well. I am sure we need to edit them before we post them.

Rusty , thanks for your enthusiasm and always lending a helping hand. You folks are all so awesome_____

I had a great time last time and kept it kind of simple. I played my single pickup Distillate who I have named Teufelin ( She-Devil in German) This simple little Bass continues to amaze me.

Equipment wise I could have been extravagant but also kept it quick and simple . For an amp just an old GK 400RB through a GAUSS 4580 in an original ALEMBIC A15 cabinet. I might bring Alembic Rack gear next time but I also just might bring the same stuff .

Sounds like this could evolve from a fun jam session to a regularly gigging band! I'm happy for you! The birth of a new band is like getting a new girlfriend, everyone is all giddy & excited & the future is wide open! Enjoy the experience my friend!

Nothing like a good jam session to get the juices flowing! Get someone to video it & post it on You Tube! Y'all could be the host band for the next Northern California Gathering!

I'd love to hear your recordings... I play a lot of Dead (and the like), am a future Further owner, and kind of starved to hear the sound!

You can use Soundcloud, and people can "follow" you to find out when there are new posts. You do not have to convert to mp3, but if you wanted to, you can do it easily in iTunes, QuickTime Player, or many other applications.

Looking forward to the gig report!

I think I can figure out how to convert to mp3, I just don't want to unless it's absolutely necessary. Personally, I hear a significant difference between CD and mp3 quality. I also think I figured out how to post it so you guys can hear it. I will be following these steps:

1. Edit recording to break it into individual songs;

2. Remove dead space in between songs;

3. Burn onto disks;

4. Bring disks to gig on Thursday night;

5. Give disks to Wolf;

6. Wolf posts so everyone can hear!

I never thought it would be so simple!

hehehehe

HI Bill , ok______
I have been doing Analog Tape to Digital file transfers for a while and often have used Pro Tools plugins such as various EQ's and Compression and various other digital process's such as BIAS Sound Soap Pro and WAVES and various pieces of outboard gear to "Doctor up " the sound /(remastering ?) . These will already be REDBOOK CD 16bit @44.1Khz when Bill gives them to me.
Maybe it doesn't need very much, _____ I am VERY interested in hearing these disc's !!!

I will take a look at Soundcloud ________

I recorded using a Yamaha Pocketrak C24. An AMAZING little gizmo, IMHO. Only 4.5" x 1.25" and only .5" thick, (except at the top where the mikes are it is .75")! And it makes excellent recordings! I don't think you will need to do much doctoring, if any, Wolf.

Bill, Great_____ I like to keep it simple and pure__ sometimes less is more ........
I just downloaded the .pdf manuel for the Yamaha Pocketrak C24 .24/96 resolution ! Better then Redbook CD Amazing little device for sure. It's TINY . Flash memory recorders keep getting better and less expensive. The huge pro Reel to Reel machines from the 1970's & 80's such as my Ampex AG440C, MCI Jh110B , Studer B67. Otari MTR12 that I use to do transfers all take up the footprint of an apartment sized refrigerator per unit. LOL___________

The other guitar player posted some live recordings on myspace. Not exactly the tunes or band name I would choose but, hey, you only live once, so here goes. You can find it here.

Thanks Bill, but I can't find the songs. Getting no love from my iPad on that page (and traveling for work, so I don't have my computer with me). I will check them out when I get back!

Sounds like a fun gig! Liked what I heard - Bill, were you playing lead or rhythm on those tunes?

Mostly rhythm, some lead. For some reason, I can't get it to work on my iPad either.

Bill, tgo
