I took this shot of everything up until that point - around 12:30:  Later on, I was reunited with my Stanley Clarke Signature Squared, with Ken's Series I fretless in back:  Got to listen to Matt jamming on his Series I guitar:  And we managed to gather together the knobbies that were present:  Dave Fung's 8-string, my doubleneck, and Bill TGO's 12-string, which I believe may tie the record for strings - 30!!!  | ||

This was the first time that I was able to make it up to the Gathering! Great fun and great times meeting lots of these long time club members in person. I managed to literally wear out my DSLR a couple of months ago and haven't bought a new one yet, so I was limited to iPhone shots, so I'll let those with better cameras post. This confab was in a new location (a 4-point shot away from the Oracle Coliseum in Oakland, go Warriors!). In the directions sheet, Mica mentioned that she would post some signage. The first shot on the thread is the "real" signage (well camouflauged behind a forklift, but that's another story). When you pulled up to the specified address, there was this sign, which is probably apt, if you're willing to turn the irony up to 11:  Lots of interest about the Flying V bass. The pictures do it no justice - the top is the most beautiful piece of purpleheart I've ever seen, with grain running parallel to the wings. It's short scale and really intense sounding. There was a lot of thought about the size and placement of everything. Quite amazing! David Fung | ||

Yeah, I agree that my pics don't do justice to that Flying V and I'm hoping Mica has some of her top notch build photos to share. It was a real show-stopper. Or...I know the time differential might be weird, but how about a Skype hookup so we could walk around with a laptop or iPad and you could see and hear what's going on in real time? Hey everyone, I finally got a minute to post today. First, thanks to Mica, Will and john for setting up the gathering at that incredible studio! My band, wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. Here's a few pics that my wife took of My band when we jammed, then the impotant pictures of the works of art that were there. Me with Gwathnar  Lori, our singer, and the "secret Third Arm"  Our Guitarist Duane, trying out a beautiful Darling  Duane taking in the "Alembic Affect"  Fretless Jam  Group Shots     Then, After I took those pictures, David showed up with these:  It was great seeing some familiar faces, and meeting some news ones too. I can vouch for the control room sound regarding Ken, Harry, Wolf, Nate, et al. But they all sounded equally great just being in the actual room with them. Thanks for the clarification, Dave Houck. Missed you and your cool vibe. Which reminds me. I'm admittedly ignorant of many of the particulars of these instruments in my facebook picture album. PLEASE let me know the specs so I can edit the captions. I have many friends who either are not musicians or are unfamiliar with Alembic and I want to expose them all to the magic that the rest of us get to experience. Thanks! | ||
