If anyone happens to be near the Russian River tomorrow (Saturday, September 3rd), my band "Stonetrout" will be playing at the newly remodeled Monte Rio Amphitheater. This is an all day event (I think it's free). We go on at 2:15 and will play for a couple of hours. Following us will be "Quicksilver Gold" - a "Quicksilver Messenger Service" tribute band featuring John Cipollina's brother on bass and Dino Valenti's son on vocals. I'll be playing several guitars, including my '83 Electrum, and my band sports 2 SF2s. I'll post some pix with the Alembic if my wife remembers to take them this time. Bill, tgo | ||

Well, it was quite a gig - one I shall NEVER forget! My wife & I drove up Friday night and stayed in a hotel in Santa Rosa. On the way we stopped at McDonalds and about an hour later I started feeling bad. Food poisoning! A very rough night and I was barely able to pack up and head to the gig by around noon the next day. We got there and found out they were behind schedule because they couldn't find the power adapter for the PA board and had to borrow another board. I passed out ten minutes before I had to go onstage. I somehow managed to make it - the show must go on and all that stuff. Our drummer then discovered that he had forgotten to bring the power adapter for his electronic drums! (Does anyone sense a theme here?) We quickly took his set down and set up a borrowed acoustic set. During our third song, the PA blew a breaker so we went instrumental with the back line only and pulled out "La" - the second (usually piano) part of "Layla". We played about 1.5 hours with the PA crapping out a couple of times more. Even with the problems it was a fun gig - good appreciative crowd. I alternated between my Electrum, a PRS CE24 and a Ricky 360/12. When we finished, the next band - sort of rock/jazz - asked me to sit in with them. I played my Alembic and really got some nice Santana-like soaring tones. Their bass player was drooling over my Electrum and told me he's saving up for an Alembic. I, of course, told him what a great idea it was. Quicksilver Gold was a lot of fun - all the old QMS material. Here's a pic of Stonetrout: Bill, tgo  | ||

Thanks guys. It's Monday morning and I'm actually feeling almost human again! You are correct Keith, the Traynor is my bass player John's. He bought it new in about 1976 and played it unchanged until the past year when he tried (and then appropriated) my SF-2. (I told my wife I would hear some response about John's Traynor before anyone around here noticed any of my equipment. I love you all, but you do tend to be thin-string challenged). Unfortunately, the nice Bird's Eye top on the Electrum washes out in the picture as it was quite sunny and bright. Maybe one of these days I'll get photoshop and add computer generated bird's eyes! The next definite gig we have lined up is November 5th in Sebastopol (another medical cannabis event). I'm hoping my new custom Further will take the stage with me for that one. Bill, tgo | ||

Bill, Guilty as charged. Guess the only thing to do is go upstairs for some therapy. Maybe I'll use the 8 string, some of its strings are thin. :-) Seriously I wish the guitarist I am currrent playing with had an Alembic. His current guitar isn't capable of much more that one sound. Keith | ||
