Dear friends,
after a longer time of strong rehearsal we are proud to announce that we will do our first non-official gig with our new WHO tribute WHO ARE YOU on saturday November 12th.
We will do this as an un-official party and we want to play in front of friends and interested people.
So everyone who is interested please send me a mail to: senmen@web.de and you will get an invitation.
We are doing this un-official as we want to do this as a "test gig" and of course want to hear the opinion of our friends and interested people.

Hope to see you all..... :-)

Many greetings and see ya

Ollie,

Where's the band's website then? Since I can't be there, I would love to see photos and hear some audio clips!

Best of luck at your 'launch party'!

Oliver,

Great set list, I hope it goes well. From my 4-gig Who tribute experience, I found it's great to record shows on video and audio. If you can arrange to get some or all of it on digital media, we'd love to see/hear it!

Holy Cow, would I LOVE to be able to play a 20-song set!!!

We always get rushed on and rushed off to accommodate a 5-band bill. Usually how it is out here....so friggin many bands.

Let us see some visuals/audio when you can, Oliver. I'm obviously VERY curious!

Cheers and best of luck - Mike

In our brief Who careen (4 shows - 3 paid and 1 freebie), we played about 25 songs each night: Summertime Blues, Shakin' All Over, Tattoo, My Generation, almost all of Tommy, Substitute, Bargain, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again, and Love Reign O'er Me. I got voted down on a few more - mostly JAE compositions. Playing a full show of Who stuff is nothing short of amazing.

Go get 'em Oliver! And to get rid of the nervousness, do what John did - tape 2 water bottles to your mic stand and fill them with your favorite brandy and such!

Your setlist and acoustic/electric/8-string/violin breakdown look great. What are you doing on the 5:15 solo?

Hi, folks,

I just returned home from this spectacular event yesterday evening... It was great, and it was very impressive to meet Oliver.

They had a very young band called In-Sane playing to warm up the audience. They did a good job, also gigging for the first time. And then: top of the bill, WHO ARE YOU.

The gear:

Oliver had both of his Spyders onstage, the 4string with V-peghead as well as the 8string.

The guy:

This is Oliver getting really excited. In fact, I don't think he moved as much this evening as JAE ever did. Sorry for the poor quality, I took eons of pics, with and without flashlight, but there are just a few that are worth to be posted. This photo also discovers the only main fault of the whole gig, and I am sorry to say... Oliver is to blame !

NO PLASTIC BOTTLE WITH MINDEXPANDING BEVERAGES TAPED TO THE MIC STAND !

you have to try harder... anyway,

The group:

Who Are You, celebrating their acoustic part of the show. This pic was born during "905", as Oliver plays his 8string axe.

It was a great show, I'm very glad I was there. After the gig there was small talk going on, and that also was fun.

I hope you all enjoy my little report,

all the best, have a nice Sunday,

Hey guys,
I am back here and back to life.
This was a hard one last night as this was our first gig with WHO ARE YOU but it was really great.
We had around 100 people joining us in this smale venue. And I was way nervous.....
I felt like my fingers were glued onto the fingerboard and I had the impression that I am only doing standard JE style, no specialities....
The photo of Christian with the group shot is us playing our interpretation of 905 mainly due to a lack of a keyboarder or a great backing track. So we did 905 acoustically with me on the Spyder 8 laying the base. After this we played TRICK OF THE LIGHT and I had the problem, that my LEDīs went off and on and off and on during it while having a dark lighting situation. It was kind of a night flight...
Christian, it was really great that you came this long way extra for the gig.
Plse send me more photos as you have them clear.
Here are some other photos taken by Johannes.
Sometimes bad condition due to the lighting, but some real nice bass pics....

Oliver (Spyderman)

Oliver,

Looks great! From experience, only JAE freaks remember the difference between his regular playing and the extra-outstanding stuff. We players tend to forget how incredible and unique his "regular" playing was.

Now that you've done it once, you'll be be able to open it up next time. In my 4 Who shows, I played best at the last one - but our guitarist broke strings in key places 3 times at that show (like during the big jam at the end of My Generation)!

Any sound files?

That is the headstock to end all headstocks.....

I've seen it in pictures and seen them on stands, but when you see that bass in your hands and that massive V hanging out up there, it's impressive. If the drummer gets out of line, you can just impale him!!

Great photos. looks like you had a great time and it looks like it got a bit warm in there too!!

Ed: sorry to correct you, but the only reason Oliver should loose points is the missing bottle. There were lots of groupies around of course, most of them showing off their letter-inlayed bellies. Actually, that was the "small talk" after the show :-) But no photos here in this public forum, of course !

Zvi: I also did a small "movie clip" with my digital camera which features Oliver thunderfingering his solo in "5:15". Three reasons why I do not post it:

I cannot, I'm sure the system will not allow to upload 30MB.
I don't like to, because the sound "quality" is quite poor
I've got other plans, it's getting close to Xmas, and I wanna be the first one issuing the ultimate "WHO-ARE-YOU-first-gig-bootleg" and make tons of solid gold on ebay :-)

Christian,
I really would like to see it. Maybe you could burn it for us on CD-R? This would be great.
Many thanks for the "Thunderfingers", but it was only a small part of it....
BTW here is the spectacular and historic photo (sorry for the bad quality - many thanks to Johannes for this historical important picture) where our singer does the "roll-back".
I was awaiting that our guitarist would come across the stage sliding on his knees like Pete did. But I didnīt expect our singer rolling back...
The other one is me soloing during THE REAL ME. Bad quality also but I like it......
BTW, next time, promised, the two bottles and maybe a big spider necklace around my neck....

Hi, Oliver and everybody,

great response (just what I expected from this great community).

Oliver, I burned all the acceptable photos and two vids on a CD-R, your wish is my command. I'll send it by German mail, so you should have that on Friday next week :-)

Anyway, here's a "sneak preview":

I am wondering, just if you put your ear close enough to the computer... but I may be on the wrong track.

As long as we're on the subject of Entwistle, here's a piece of news via a friend of mine (edited ever so slightly):

"An Ox's Tale", a 90-minute documentary on John's life and music, has
been in production for many months and is nearing a release. The
producers have decided to select a few choice clips for your viewing
pleasure.
WARNING: adult language.

http://www.johnentwistle.com/MPEG/OxTale.mpg

Appearing in this clip are bits from a
*3.5-hour* interview Pete did with Steve Luongo - John's longtime friend and drummer in the John Entwistle Band - specifically about his (Pete's) memories of John.
Pete told Luongo that he (Pete) would never need to do another retrospective of his memories of John, as he said it all in this interview.

Christan,
many thanks for this great news. I am waiting eagerly.
Zvi, yes I knew about the John documentary. There was also a documentary on John on BBC maybe two months ago. This is also great.
Kevin, more to come soon, promise. As for the 8string LEDīs, donīt know. The batteries are ok and at the moment they are working again without any problem.
All in all I have to say that the resonance to our first gig is overwhelming. Not only here on the forum but we get so many inquiries to play here in local clubs as well as in a famous club in Cologne. Seems that our gig was good.... :-)

Christian,
many thanks for the CD. It arrived today. The two short video clips are great. The overall sound is bad of course, but I was really amazed about my bass sound. I hadnīt expect this to be so close to Johns classic Alembic sound.....
I really had thought that it would be much bassier. I am positively amazed..... :-)
Well guys, I really would like to share these short sequences with you but I donīt know where to put them due to their big size, each approx. 15mb.

Hello Oliver and friends,

Zvi had a good idea in regards to file sharing. He told me there is a platform called dropload.com where you could upload any file up to 100MB and specify a recipient. This recipient gets a message by mail when upload is completed, and can then download the file to his hard drive. There is a small "but": You have to upload the same file for each recipient, there is no possibility to upload one file for multiple downloads. If anyone is interested, I'll be glad to be of service for you... What do you folks think about that ?

The songs we recorded are: Pinball Wizard - Substitute - Behind Blue Eyes - Wonīt get fooled again - Baby OīRiley
Also we have overworked our homepage.
We have added some info in english and also have new photos, taken in the studio, uploaded.
