Okay, I'm gonna start a separate thread for Noah G gigs. We're playing at Hawthorne Race Track this Saturday as part of Fan Appreciation Night for the harness track. We start at 6:45pm and will play between 9 races or so, 15-20 minute mini sets. Who wants to see the ponies ? As usual, I'll be playing my fretless Epic primarily and the fretted Epic on a couple of songs. Mike |

Hi friends, This isn't a Noah Gabriel Band gig, but I wanted to post it and save the thread! I'm back on stage for the first time since last summer, sitting in on bass next Tuesday Jan. 15th with "The Guise" hosting an open jam at Mike & Denise's Pub & Pizza. The club is at 1760 N. Farnsworth (just south of I-88) in Aurora, IL, The Guise starts at 8:30. If you can make it out, a swell time will be had! Bring an axe and sit in. Look for a NGB show coming up in February! Mike |

Happy Easter everyone! Here's some pics of the Feb. 22nd show at the Roundhouse: having a great time. Noah is the cat in the hat You can see my rig behind me. My Acme Low B-2 sat on an amp stand and my rig sat on a keyboard bench. I just bought a second Low B-2. "Crooked" - I'm grooving in the blue zone I switched to fretted for "Redemption". The crowd was a gas! My solo. People say I look like Jerry. It must be the glasses. musical hijinks abound. I recorded the show from beside Noah's monitor. I got one of the best recordings ever. 2nd set (I changed shirts) Noah has talked about putting up some of my audio from the show on his Myspace page. I'll post here if he does. We're playing next Friday, March 28 at the Venice Tavern in Batavia. Looking forward to more fun! Mike |

Thanks Dave, They were taken (along with 700+ more) by the PR guy from Roundhouse. We've been recording 15 songs since the Feburary show, and Noah put two rough mixes of new tracks on his Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/noahgabriel The new tracks are "Crooked" and "When I'm Gone". I'm looking forward to this Friday at Venice Tavern. I just got my second Acme Low B-2 last Friday and will be bringing it along. Mike |

Hi Kenn, Yeah I really love the tone as well. I'm not planning on running the new 4 ohm B-2 very loud as this will be its first use and Andy Lewis strongly recommends a break-in period to exercise the cones. That being said, I will be powering it up along with my first B-2 (also 4 ohm) with a QSC PLX1602 running in parallel (one input feeding both channels independently). I'll stack them vertcally with the new one on the bottom which will bring my original up to ear level. Venice Tavern is an intimate club as well, seating maybe 120 in the room we play in when the patio isn't in use (not yet in Illinois). I loved my sound at the Roundhouse in February, but was at the top end of what I could get cleanly from one side of the QSC (500 w @ 4 ohms) so felt I would like more for this summers outdoor venues. We're scheduled to be back in the Roundhouse in May, so I'll have more chance to verify the dual cabinet setup by then. Mike |

Indeed it is, Peter. Right next to the pedestrian bridge. In all honesty, the sliding glass doors lead to the patio, which is on the Fox River. |

I worked that room once with Vanessa Davis Band almost 30 years ago - glad it's still there, it was a nice venue (and it is, indeed, intimate). Someone stuffed a candy wrapper in one of the PA horns - which is, I swear, the ONLY reason I always walked around with hemostats on my beltloop back then! Peter |

Well, the Venice Tavern is no longer on my playlist. I don't want to draw out the debacle, but the owner decided to book an acousti-pop quartet before NGB last Friday, then had them run past 9:15. They didn't load out until after 10 and by then the NGB band was long gone, Noah wound up doing an acoustic show to close out the night. We did probably 15 shows there over the last three years in Pickled BEATS and NGB. I won't play for him again. Mike Meanwhile, Noah Gabriel Band is booked May 9th at Walter Payton's Roundhouse in Aurora (this will be our third show there). Details to follow...

Actually for March 7th, we called ourselves Noah Gabriel and Sugarbush. March is being good to us! The Noah Gabriel Band (Noah Gabriel & ?) is doing an acoustic show tomorrow, Friday the 20th, at: Curly’s Grill 499 Pennsylvania Ave, Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137 We start at 9 pm. Curly's is an intimate little neighborhood bar three blocks from the METRA station in Glen Ellyn. This will be our first band acoustic show (Gary has a rep as a "dive-bomber" with Gilmour tendencies), our drummer Andy will be using misc percussion instead of his kit. More to come ... Mike |

Thanks Bill, Graeme (That pun still kills me!) We're rehearsing with Noah tonight. I'll ask about distribution options. I can say he's got two cuts on his MySpace page ("Crooked" & "Black Snake") and three other tracks ("Maybe We Were Wrong", "Woe" and "Grey On Grey") on noahgabriel.com. With any luck, I'll have some live cuts up on my MySpace page next week, I've been waiting until Noah declares the CD officially out. I hope the weather is kind to you both. Mike |

I checked with Noah and he says "Crooked" will be available from CD Baby and/or ITunes within the next week (already sent in to them). Apparently we are doing the 1st and 3rd sets at Chord On Blues tomorrow, and The Raj will be doing the middle set. That way our fans won't have to wait around until 11pm for NGB to start. Mike |

Thanks Graeme, "Way Down" also chugs along pretty well (almost a BTO groove), and there are other rockin tracks on the CD as well, i.e. "When I'm Gone", and "Can't Stay Here". My recording from the CD release party wasn't as good as I'd wish, but serves to document the night pretty well anyway. I've got one cut up on MySpace from 12-5-09 and will get another up eventually. Sadly Chord-On-Blues runs RED Parlights on the bandstand which just doesn't photograph very well, so no pics from the show to share. Mike |

I love the Arcada Theatre. I used to run the spot there when they would have their theatre organ festivals. Virgil Fox and Peter Nero showed up for a couple of them. It is one of the few originals still in place and functioning. I also used to run lights for a theatre productions that would come through. Back in my days it was an old rheostat board from the 1920's. Who needs the smell of grease paint when you can have sparks and ozone. Hope you have a good show Mike. Keith |

I'm back and it is a beautiful space with excellent acoustics. There was almost no promo for this show and, with the cover, we played to a paying crowd of about 10.... I'm cutting tape from the show as I write this, so back to work. I'm off to Iowa tomorrow for a rehearsal of 60's and 70's era Dubuque Rock Vets this weekend. |

We're playing one set at an original music showcase at Chord On Blues in St. Charles this Saturday, sponsored by Kiss The Sky (an independent record store in the area). There are a bunch of bands scheduled, the show starts at 6, we go on at 10 pm. There will be mini-acoustic sets in between the bands. Noah keeps writing them, we keep doing them. Mike |

I would like to check out your Gig but will not be in your area, perhaps some other time. 3 Set Gigs are Cool, I remember having to play four 45 minute Sets with 15 minute breaks back in the 1980's , usually by the end of the 4th Set I always felt like it was a real work out. I usually feel quite musically satisfied after multiple Sets; playing Bass does that for me . I will look for some of your CD's. Sonic Regards _______ |

Thanks, Graeme and Wolf. Actually, it's going to be two ~80 minute sets with one 20 minute break, in a pub small enough to be a coffee shop (although there is an upstairs bar as well). I just finished editing slides from our 12-5-09 CD release party into a video, "Crooked". It, and also two tracks from our 3-18-10 Arcada Theater gig, are on Myspace It's looking like this summer will be busier than last year! Mike |

This is my busiest music performance week in years! Thursday the Noah Gabriel Band is playing a 1 hour set, starting at 4 pm, at the "WTMX Party In The Park" in Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. We'll perform outside on the Plaza at Park Grill, 11 N. Michigan Ave. It's a free show, and another band, The Ginge (short for ginger) play after us starting at 5:30. Then I drive to Dubuque, Iowa Friday morning to perform at the Dubuque Rock Veterans' Rock n' Roll Rewind on Friday and Saturday at Courtside Bar and Grill, benefiting the non-profit Camp Albrecht Acres. Friday's show is 5:30 to 11:30, and Saturday is 3pm to 1am Sunday morning. 17 reconstituted Dubuque bands from the 60s and 70s are involved (I'm playing with 4 bands each night). Courtside is located at 2095 Holliday Drive in Dubuque. $10 Advance tickets (good for both days) are available at any Hartig Drug Store location and at the door. For more information, check out the DRV Facebook page. We've been working on this since December last year, and rehearsing it since January. Whew! (I'm loving this) Mike |

It's definitely a multi-shirt experience! It's the same 4 bands, but the schedules flip flop and several of the other groups are only doing one night, so the viewer experience will hooefully be enjoyable. My F1-X / QSC / Acme Low B rig will be the backline for both nights. Mike |

Hi Graeme, Thursday was a blast, and truely beautiful, but electrical problems prevented me from recording the show audio (sigh ). Noah had a relative with a FlipVideo recorder, and I'm hoping to get a copy of the footage to edit. We gat a couple of stills at the Plaza, see the link below. Friday and Saturday in Dubuque, was AMAZING! Over 1000 people attended, and familiar faces were everywhere. My recorder worked, and a number of other people were trying to take board taps or room recordings. There have been hundreds of pictures posted so far on Facebook ( here's my page- these are just the pictures I've been tagged in), with more to come, and several camcorders were running as well. So there are angles from all over the place. We had a planned set shot for coverage and that appears to be something we can start editing with. I'm working with the event planners to try to pull together as much material as I can to create audio recordings of each band (all 17)first, and edited videos once we can get a grip on the sources. I have 16 hours of my recordings, and about 6 hours from a SBD recording of Friday night. As much fun as it was for the fans who attended, it was even more fun to see all of these musical companions from one little Iowa town, many of whom hadn't played with or seen each other in 40 years or more. Both nights we had an audience sing-along segment to "Imagine" part way thru the night, and bands covered every flavour from The Ventures to Sam & Dave to HP Lovecraft to Chicago to Santana to Beatles to Led Zepplin to .... One of the things I enjoy about these gig notices is searching for the venues on Multimap. It's given me a great perspective on where everyone in our community is and I've found out some interesting things. For example, Lake Michigan is about twice the size of the country of Wales. No wondered they're called the 'Great' lakes. graeme |

It's sitting on a On Stage stand. It looks weird because I had my amp rack sitting on the floor in front of the stand, propped up on it's front cover so I could see the tuner. Poor Boys is a "no-stage, set up on the floor by the front door" kinda club. The setup is narrow, but the owner and crowd are friendly and supportive. Mike |

Hi Graeme, NGB was started with the fretless as a production choice on his first CD in 2001, and it's pretty much stayed there ever since. I've used my fretted Epic a few times (1 or 2 songs). I also use it for another band I'm in - "Friends of Fife" (still in rehearsal / recording mode). The Distillate mostly goes into the studio nowadays, although I'd like to bring it back out and maybe will this spring. In two weeks we start rehearsals for Rock N Roll Rewind 2011 this summer in Dubuque. Mike |

This is not a Noah Gabriel gig (we're back in recording mode, working on Noah's 4th band CD), but rather than push someone else's post off the board I'll post here that I'm doing the Dubuque Rock Veteran's Rewind 2011 benefit for Camp Albrecht Acres August 5th and 6th. I'm providing the bass rig for the shows at the Mississippi Moon Bar in the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque and holding the low end for 9 acts, all playing both nights. The Friday show is 5 pm til 11:30 (11 acts doing 30 minute sets) and Saturday will be 1 pm til 12:30 am (18 area acts doing one set each) with 5 minute breaks between acts. Various bands have members flying in from all over the USA. These are all acts that played in the Dubuque area in the 1960s and '70s, doing period music with as many original members as could be found or coerced onto the stage . I'm doing everything from a Simon and Garfunkle set (love Joe Osborne) to Beatles, Eric Burdon, Chicago, Sam & Dave, Airplane, Flkeetwood Mac, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Bette Midler, and on and on... We'll be recording the entire event on three cameras and audio, and I'll also be involved in the editing of the shows for DVD release. Here's the link to the Dubuque Rock Veteran's Facebook page. There will also be an open mic at a club called The Lift on Wednesday night August 3rd at 9:30 and a webcast called Midwest Music Makers Wednesday evening at 6 pm CDT on man-cave-presents Midwest Music Makers Mike (Message edited by dadabass2001 on July 28, 2011) |

Mike - that sounds awesome and exciting - genre hopping is always a blast!. I just watched a doc on Paul and Art it was neat. Did Joe Osborne play the bass part on America? That is an understated yet killer cool bass part. Have fun and update us when the dvd is out (maybe post a youtube video or two ) |

We'll be playing in the beer garden again, a favorite spot over the years. Come on out if you're in the area. We'll start around 9:30 PM. Then on Saturday the 3rd the Rewinders (core band members from Dubuque Rock Veterans) will be playing a 5 hour free show at Mystique Casino in Dubuque, Iowa. Here's the Dubuque Rock Veterans event page with details. We'll be doing combined sets with tunes from Gayle Grether, Hampton Road, Yesterday's Children, Pentagram, Andy Wilberding, and Janet Lieb. There's some YouTube videos of the August 5th and 6th Rewind 2011 up from various attendees and fans. Here's the link to videos by Rock The Hub . I'm playing with Andy Wilberding, Lavendar Hill, Gayle Grether, Hapton Road, and with Janet Lieb and Yesterday's Children (5 of the 9 acts I was bassist for). |

You're a busy guy, Mike! I might be passing through Dubuque Saturday evening, in which case I'll stop in and wave hello to the stage. I'll have to check the videos tomorrow at work where there's some bandwidth. What I've seen sounds good. John |

Hey Graeme, Life is good, the music is fun, the players are friends in my hometown. What more could a fellow ask for? The Rewind event on August 5th and 6th was also fun, but hectic because of my schedule on stage. I played in all but 2 of the Friday acts, and the breaks were only 5 minutes. Saturday's schedule was not as tight, but I had only two long breaks and the Saturday performance was 11 1/2 hours. Since the 6th of August I've been preparing audio CDs for the participants and organizers, and importing video in preparation for editing a DVD of the performances. Meanwhile, we've just finished the 4th band CD for Noah Gabriel, called "Ghosts of Tomorow" with some very cool tunes, and we've got a performance coming up at the end of September (besides the show this Friday - see above). Mike, what time do you load-in on Saturday? My guess is that I'll be through there earlier instead of later. Figure I can at least stop and say hey if you're around. If not, then I'll probably re-route more West than North. John |

Hi John, It looks like we're loading in at 3pm and doing a soundcheck at 5 on Saturday. Look for my blue Chevy Cobalt, packed to the roof with hardware! Mike |

Looks like about 6-ish hours from home for me. If I don't roll out *really early* (I have a gig the night before, but one never knows...) I'll pop in and say hey. If I do hit the road early, I'll probably not go that far North. I don't need to decide until Davenport, so we'll see. It would be good to see you, even if only for a few minutes. I'll be on a red Suzuki V-Strom with black Pelican cases mounted on the sides, wearing a very faded high-viz motorcycle suit. John |

Mike, I got rained-out (and rained-on). I would have been too early anyway, but the weather that was moving through dictated that I move through in the opposite direction at a spirited pace. Sorry I wasn't able to catch you up there. John |

It's cool, John. "Another time and space" will work too. It was a soggy load-in but the tent was spacious, the smallish crowd was enthusiastic, and the band played pretty well. The soundman, Scott, did a great job, and I got pretty good tape on the evening. Mike |

Hey all. Been doing a fair amount of recording since September, but the Noah Gabriel Band is doing a special show this Saturday, November 19th at 9pm at East Side Pub in St. Charles, IL. James Cademan and Noah met a couple years ago now at an open mic in Sarasota, Florida and have kept in touch ever since. James is originally from Chicagoland, and when he told Noah he was coming up here and wanted to book a show with NGB, we jumped at the chance. Mike |

If I get some new pix, I'll put 'em up. Meanwhile our gig at 2 Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora (formerly Walter Payton's Roundhouse) in late September (a CD/Vinyl release party for Noah's latest solo acoustic effort) yielded up this photo: Have I mentioned Noah loves Jimi (among many)? Also Noah's website (www.noahgabriel.com) is redone with more tracks to listen to from the various releases. Mike (Message edited by dadabass2001 on November 18, 2011) |

Hi Pauldo, Noah has a "Split personality" on discs: He does pure acoustic solo albums (I believe 4 so far - although 2 of them are compilation records with other acoustic artists, each doing a song or two) and then there's the band recordings. We've done 4 over the years: "In Aurora", "Truth, Love, Faith & Soul", "Crooked" and "Ghosts of Tomorrow" will have it's CD release in January. We're already recording songs for a 5th CD as well. Noah also does acoustic gigs and hosts acoustic open mics around the Fox Valley regularly. His website, noahgabriel.com shows his upcoming gigs and all his CDs. The embedded player has 15 tracks from the various recordings and there's videos of acoustic and electric Noah as well. Besides working with Noah, Gary Belniak, Andy Szymanski and I have also been working on a CD for Sandra Toutman, an excellent writer and singer who guested harmonies on Noah's "Crooked" CD, and Gary and I are also rehearsing another band (Friends of Fife) with singer Lisa Sayers, drummer Dan Dewitt, and guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Gregg Woods. Music usually happens 2 or 3 nights a week for me. Mike |

I've seen other guitar players do that too. All I can figure is that when you've got an itch on the back of your head and you're busy playing guitar ... |

Jacko, you can read the seasons by my facial hair. I shave every spring and grow the beard back every fall (It's back now) John, lol. That may have happened to Noah at some point. He's had his hair short for several years now. Mike |

Saturday, January 21, 2012 The Noah Gabriel Band will be releasing a new album "Ghosts of Tomorrow," and will be joined by good friends Greg Boerner and Beautiful Collision at: Two Brothers Roundhouse (formerly Walter Payton's Roundhouse) 205 N. Broadway, Aurora, IL 60505. The evening will be hosted by US99's Lisa Dent and we will be raffling off the one and only Noah Gabriel Bobblehead, and possibly a couple other things. Noah is moving to Austin TX, so this will be the final NGB gig. The show will be from 8-11 pm and admission is free. You can hear 5 of Noah's solo tracks and 12 band tracks written by Noah from all his CDs at ReverbNation.com Mike |

Thanks Dave and Graeme. Gary, Andy, and I are working on another project with Sandra Troutman, and Noah says he'll be back periodically (he has roots in the area). So the outlook for staying musically active looks good. Mike |

Mike - I've worn the grooves out of Crooked. Noah's band is great - I think it is the cool bass lines :-) Hope he does well in Tejas - I know you will be where the groove is. (Like Bag End this spring! ?) |

I've been a busy little video editor! I just finished the DVDs from Rewind 2011 (see my post 1571 above on this thread), 19 acts and a Compilation DVD. I also posted one cut from each acts on my Youtube channel and placed them in a playlist called Rewind 2011. I'm playing on 10 of the 19 acts through my F1-X, QCS, and 2 Acme Low B-2 cabs (the bass rig for all acts that weekend) with a DI to the mains. I used my fretless Epic for video #2 (Punky's Dilemma) and played my fretted Epic for the other nine videos: #s 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, and 19. It was a really great weekend, but I told the organizers I'll only do 3 or 4 acts this coming summer. Mike |

That must have been one EPIC gig for you Mike! Seriously, being on stage with all of those different people must have been a blast. Your playing is brilliant through out - on Honky Tonk Woman you sound more like Will Lee than Bill Wyman. :-D |

Thanks, Paul. It is and was a blast. Many of these folks I've known since the 60s, but some I've met only since the first Rewind in 2010. A lot of people in Dubuque still remember these bands from high school and CYO dances and Rec. Department ramp dances. They'd shut down one of the two parking ramps downtown for a Wednesday night during the summer and have two bands play on the top floor with cheap admission. The last dance of the year would have a name or touring act as headliner. I saw the Association during their first national tour at a ramp dance. They later said it was a highlight of the summer for them and wrote a song about it (Dubuque Blues). Mike |
