Hey everyone. My regular band, "Stonetrout", was supposed to play this weekend at the second annual "Dazed on the Green Bud" festival in Monte Rio, CA. (about 1/2 hour west of Alembicland). Unfortunately both the drummer and bass player ran into family commitments and couldn't make the date. So instead I'm bringing up my new side project. 2 guitars, bass, drums, and female backup singer doing Grateful Dead material ... full jams and everything. We rehearse Friday night (our 5th time ever playing together), and debut on Saturday as "Rough Around the Edges". Here's a songlist: Cassidy Brown Eyed Women Loser Bird Song They Love Each Other Catfish John Beat It On Down the Line Eyes of the World Sugaree The Weight (The Band) Get Up Jake (The Band) You Ain't Goin' Nowhere (Dylan). Here's some info: Friday-Saturday, August 11th-12th, Monte Rio: Dazed on the Green Bud Marvin's Gardens Presents the 2nd Annual Daze on the Green Co-sponsored by Americans for Safe Access Sonoma County Featuring Live Music by: Stiff Dead Cat George Haggardy & Friends JaLight Stonetrout Ancient Mystic Dgiin and DJ I-Lee Special Guest Wisdom Friday from 5pm-10pm Saturday from 11am-10pm Monte Rio Amphitheatre 9925 Main Street Monte Rio, CA It's free! I'll be playing "Tina", my Alembicized Fernandes, and will be using my guitar synth on stage for the first time ... mostly just a couple of organ patches. We're scheduled to go on at 2 p.m. Later in the program there is supposed to be a jam with Jorge Santana which I've been invited to join. Come on by if you're in the area. Last year's event was a blast! Bill, tgo |

The name is a take off on the infamous "Days on the Green" that Bill Graham usd to produce in the Bay Area. But doing what I do, I do get a lot of cannabis event gigs. Heck, the following weekend I may be playing my friend Ben Scales' song "I'm Growing Marijuana In My Yard" as a solo acoustic number in front of 50,000+ at the annual Seattle Hempfest, the largest cannabis event in the world! My 11 year old suggested I wear black pants (so any stains don't show - he has a great sense of humor). Bill, tgo |

Well, "Rough Around The Edges" had a successful debut. Thirteen songs, 1.5 - 2 hours non-stop. Great P.A. I used my Alembic/Fernandes and used my GR-33 guitar synth out for the first time. Organ and piano patches that sounded quite good on the tape I heard later. Big fun. The audience seemed to really enjoy it, but I expect that's par for the course when you play Grateful Dead tunes at a cannabis event! Beautiful weather, venue, people, a fine time was had by all. I also got to jam with George Haggardy - a monster player that can pull off Hendrix - but Jorge Sanatana never showed. I know, it's only rock 'n roll, but I like it. Here's a pic: Bill, tgo |

Rough Around the Edges will be playing our second time out on 4/20 (though I don't know if we'll be using that name). I'll also be doing a set with my other band, Stonetrout. Info on the "Stonetrout" thread, also in the "Gig" section. Bill, tgo |

Bill, will this be the onstage debut of 'Big Irv' or has he already seen some 'in-front-of-crowd' action? Good luck, have fun. David |

This will indeed be Big Irv's maiden voyage. Also on stage will be my old Electrum which I sold to the other guitar player (anybody wanna buy a strat? He says he can't play his anymore since he got the Alembic) and, in my other band, Stonetrout, an Epic 5. Also two SF-2s. And, of course, my Series I and my Alemfer. Bill, tgo |

Rough Around the Edges plays this Sunday on the second day of a two day festival: Marvin's Gardens Medical Cannabis Patients Cooperative presents the third annual "DAZED ON THE GREEN" 4 bands on Saturday from 12-9 p.m. (my other band Stonetrout plays at 4) Sunday is Grateful Dead Day with 3 dead-influenced bands. (R.A.T.E. plays 2-3:45) Great venue: the Monte Rio Amphitheater just west of the Russian River town of Guerneville. Big fun! Bill, tgo |
