Okay...everyone else gets to...

There are a lot of people from the Northeast, PA, NY and NJ that play the brand.

Anybody else want to?

How many people can we get?

Where (state) should we do it?

Program outline?

Can we get a ton of players?

Now seriously folks, I have talked to a few of you that are in the area and know that there are even more in "driving" distance. Do we want to do this?

Chime in...

I'm there.Just say the word. As far as where I think Jersey would offer a more central point for those traveling in from PA,Conn.and Maryland. Also parking/security would most likely be better.

Depending on when, I might.

Do it in Jersey City, or somewhere on the PATH line, I say.

Approaching critical mass?

Even have a guitar player!

Where are the other Northeasterners and New Englanders?

Does June or July sound good? Are we at least agreed on a Saturday?

Shall we plan on meeting at a house? Club? Denny's restaurant?

A Denny's? Surely you must be kidding, what with all those killer Greek owned diners up there. I'd love to do it if my schedule permits(probably won't) and meet some new cats. I have some old friends in the Philly area so I'd have more than one reason to go.

My Telembic lives in Massachusetts, but I live in California so unfortunately I don't think I can make it out there unless it's the last week of August in Mass. somewhere (planning a visit then).

Hope it comes together though!

Jimmy, consensus is growing around NJ. You STILL have to come out and say Hi!

Harry, we understand the travel issues. Just send the guitar.

Consensus coming up with June or July?

A Saturday afternoon or a Sunday afternoon?

Critical Mass Reached?

We need to decide on...

Northern NJ? (seems to be most central point, or point where most people can comfortably reach us)

Saturday or Sunday afternoon? Saturday works best for some, but working musos might have commitments...

June or July? I vote for July, as better weather

Host and location? S/He who drives the least must make the arrangements.

We got interest, so now we need planning/logistics support. S/He who drives the least...

We got WHO (of course we can always have room for another friend...)

Now we need When/Where/etc...(rolling...)

Let me offer my office in Stamford, CT as a pit stop for any member that is travelling through the area and needs a bathroom, a cup of coffee, or a phone. Any state in the area works for me. We have a micro brwrery in town, and other gathering places as well.

How is the subject of other musicians and/or equipment usually handled? We should pool resources and other players to round out the sound--not that Alembics can't stand alone!

I offer for the group's consideration, Secaucus NJ. It is right outside the Lincoln Tunnel and has a convention center/hotel plenty of restaurants and ample parking. Another point for consideration is,once we decide on when and where we have to decide on who will go to that place and plunk down money for the facility/festivities. How do we reimburse the Lad/Lass and who's amp(s)are how many people going to be playing through them at any given time? Since Mica has made a commitment barring any unforeseen events. We should start firming up the aforementioned.Yes??

Hi everbody,

I have made inquiries into the Hyatt in Morristown, NJ. The rates are reasonable on a weekend ($400 for a smaller conference room for 10 to 20 people). They can also handle the catering. Lots of good restaurants nearby, in walking distance in a nice town. Ample parking under the hotel. Easy to get to from major interstates (287, 80, 78).

I will personally coordinate this affair if we select this fine location, and we get 10 people to help defray costs. You don't have to stay at the Hyatt, since there are other hotels nearby.

I was thinking of the second half of August, on a weekend.

I am as excited as anyone, maybe more than a few. It seems like the Chicago gathering has raised interest and our get-together should be an exciting time.

We all want this to be as accomodating as possible, but I think that we should wait to see if Mica has any input on location. She has already said that early September is preferable for Alembic, so let's give her a couple of days to recover and see what she has to say about when/where?

I'd double check with the Hyatt people that it's o.k. to have a full blown LOUD jam going for several hours. I suspect a hotel would probably not be too appreciative of the volume. You might try looking into a music store, studio, or music equipment manufacturer (with a warehouse, like BagEnd) sponsoring the event. They get lots of players who have been known to spend big bucks, and you get a sympathetic host and a place to kick out the jams. Symbiotic. Likely for no charge.

Bill's right. The rafters were shaking a bit at Bag End. Last thing you want during a jam is someone knocking at the door saying, "would you mind toning it down just a smidge?"

I possibly could do September.

I have checked with the Hyatt people. They have weddings, bar-mitzahs, and the like with lots of noise. These spaces are away from the guest areas, and are well insulated for sound. They seemed fine, and were more concerned that WE were not interrupted. There is also a Hilton nearby in Parsipanny, were rock bands play to past midnight at Horror and fantasy conventions. No complaints there either. No need to go cheap here. You get what you pay for as far as amenities.

Failing that I'll look into the local Guitar Center, and Sam Ash stores. What we need most of all is a commitment to a specific date. The sooner the better. Time is a luxury we do not really have. Let's have a show of hands, please. We need to agree on a date first and foremost. Labor Day weekend comes to mind.

I'm still hoping to make it myself, perhaps a Sept 19 or 26 will work for me. I'm not 100% sure I can come yet, so don't hold up getting together on my account. Though major holidays are tempting, it's likely that most people have family or professional music plans then.

Also, if we go the dealer route, I think that an Alembic dealer would be better than a non-Alembic dealer like GC or SA.

Let me settle in a week or so and see what I can drum up for locations. I will report back here.

Sam Ash in Springfield, NJ looks promising. The underboss there is positive to the idea. The boss will be in Friday. The local GC has a lot less space. The closest Alembic dealer is in CT (not a good location). We need parameters, such as the number of people and when to meet (to avoid scheduling conflicts). The rest will be fairly easy. Maybe we can get Sam Ash or GC to pick up the Alembic line, if we do this there.

A hotel means expense, but if split up among us, will be little out of pocket. Consider the convenience of having this in a walk to town.

Let's vote!

G-Guitars New Haven CT is the Alembic dealer. They may be receptable to this idea, and they have a few Alembic guitars in stock too. They have a big showroom floor and an amp room to rock out in, too. Maybe a drive for some, but I don't like the idea of renting a room in a Hotel. Maybe a van pool can be arranged? I could bring an amp if needed. (SWR head, SF2, El Whappo cab)

The location (wherever that may be) will involve a hotel stay for at least some of people attending. Certainly, where we have this will depend on where most people are coming from.

NOTHING is going to happen unless someone puts a stake in the ground, so I will do it.

Morristown, NJ, August 8. Let's vote.

I am down for Morristown if you know of a place to host the gathering.

Not to stir things up too much, but.... I have an idea of a place in Jersey City/Hoboken, NJ that may work out well, but I need more information before I would contact them. What time would the gathering begin and end? How many people can we expect to gather? If you all think Jersey City is a good location for the gathering I would be happy to look into it and try to provide as much info as possible.

Okay, shall we take a weeklong online poll to see how many are interested in coming to upper NJ for August 8th?

After 7 days, should we then start to make the formal arrangements? That should give flyers time to get the best fares...

Why don't we all respond online here with a YEA or NAY? If NAY, then offer the alternative that works best for you.

If anyone up here needs transportation, don't let that stop you because we can probably arrange carpools. I would imagine that pickup at Newark International early in the morning would work out for those of us driving in and willing to help transport fellow Alembicians.

If we go the rehearsal studio route, we probably want to get one as large and as well-equipped (amps, drums, etc.) as possible so that we can bring as little as possible. Also, we can probably negotiate a decent rate for the entire day. (At least 11A - 6P)

Mike? MIKE? MikE? (There must be at least 3 in NE/NY)

Greg? Greg? (Yonni, Locke)

Danny (dannobasso)?

Adam (Mendez4)?

Dino?

Bueller...Bueller...

(hmmph! A ton of basses, a ton of players?)

Alright, let's see how this puppy flies!

OK Folks the week for voting has passed. Looks like we have 5 for sure. Now we need to vote on the location, and hours. I say noon to 6 PM, Saturday August 8th. The recording studio route sounds good, as it will minimize having to haul amps, and drum kits. The hotel will have conveniences such as secure parking, and walk to places to eat.

Hey Mike,

Let's look for the largest rehearsal studio that we can find. Even perhaps one that can combine rooms. That means that they will have amps, PA, drums, parking, and electricity. If we rent it for the entire day, we should be able to get a better rate. Also, hopefully one without stairs/steps.

Let's look at what kind of basic recording we can make, if any (no, I really meant that note to be there, I was trying something new).

Don't know about food accessibility, but we can always order pizza delivered (they tell me every muso eats pizza, American Chop Suey, and Fried Chicken...preferably dripping in grease). Rehearsal studio should have a lounge or we can set apart space for eating.

Hey Hal,

Two possibilities:
1) theblackbirdstudio.com (Parsippany, NJ). This looks like a nice new place for $34/hr with no engineer. $65/hr with. The prices are all inclusive with amps, etc. The location is less convenient for flyers, as this is 25 miles west of NYC (but off of route 80), and about 30-45 min from the airport. Spacious area too.

2) musicstudio22.com in Union. This is more of a bare bones affair at 23/hr. 20 x 20 foot room. No recording, only rehearsal space. Does not sound like a full drum kit is available. Have to rent cymbals. Only snare drum. 15 min from airport.

Both will allow food to be ordered in. We can also bring whatever we like as far as equipment at both.

I have not visited either place personally.

I am open to any other proposed locations. But remember: If you propose it - coordination is on you.
