I'm playing guitar with an incredible new singer called Harleighblu Low. We have been rehearsing the set for the past few weeks which is completely her own compositions. This will be our first gig together with this project and the first of many gigs with her this summer in prep for some showcase gigs in London. The venue is the Adam & Even Pub, Bradford Street, Birmingham. Time: 20:00 GMT We have a 1/2 hour support band spot. Yeah the gig went great thanks. We have some more coming up soon. I have decided to use one of my Non -Alembic guitars for this project as the MD wanted a very light and thin sound for guitar on the tracks. The guitar I'm using is a Rob Williams CS Model but customised wiring and pickup switching. The body and neck is Mahogany. Here is a link. Mine is the first one on the left of the page. http://web.mac.com/robertlloydwilliams/Robwilliamsguitars/products.html The neck is a dream to play, however, It has seymour Duncan pickups on it which I really don't like the sterile and cold sound of, there is too much of a difference in volume when switching between pickups, plus they are quite noisy for me. Considering the guitar is mahogany with a thick quilted maple top I was expecting a warmer sound. But this is not the case. I've had some chats with Rob ( the guitar maker) and he said some people just dont get on with Seymour Duncans and I mentioned that I was considering changing them for Fender Lace setup like my Strat Ultra which is sound I'm really happy with. Then he suggested trying the newer Fender Noisecancelling pickups though I'd need some kind of humbucker to go in the bridge position so I'm coinsidering a Fender Red Dually Lace pickup for that. I popped to my local music store at the weekend and tried out a US Strat with three noisecancelling pickups and it sounded incredible powerful, clean and articulate and quiet. Though for the bridge they suggested a Gibson Bustbucker pickup. I've looked at the gibson site and found Bursbucker Pro and burstbucker 2. I'm not familiar with Gibsons at all really so wondered if the string spacing would be compatible with the strat spacing and how they would sound. ? As you may know from previous posts of mine, i generally prefer a clean sound in the main that I can dirty up with a pedal rather than have a hot pickup. Any Advice, suggestions?
