Guys and Gals there is going to be a bass gathering in New Jersey in early March as of this writing. It will be hosted by Phil Jones Bass. Phil Jones himself will be there to answer all of your questions. Some more sorted details under miscellaneous section under combos. Warning some Fodera folk will be there. I think it would be a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our Alembics for those lost souls. Show them what a bass is supposed to sound, feel and look like. Perhaps we can drag them from the dark side into the light. Shouldn't be that hard once they experience Alembic. As these things go, there is most likely going to be show specials etc. so bring some shekels, pet your dog twice and be kind to the misses. As more details come in I will post them. BTW for those of you who don't know Phil was gracious enough to send some of his great sounding products to the first ever New Jersey Alembic gathering. If I click my heels three times he may come to our next NJ gathering (Harold where are you?) with some of his gear in tow. Who would like that to happen?

Frank is out here, too, and will try to be there, drummer in tow... if you all are game!
Of course, we might be playing so please try to come up with several choices of dates, if possible...

Peace;)

How did you know I was dieting?
I'm gonna need a bigger ride. My HHR can only hold so many.
BTW Mike Albronda is a heck of a nice guy and monster plater so even if you are not a Joisey boy and can come out it will be well worth the trip.

Yes, Mike A is a great player- Barry, Mike and I did a 3 way (get your damn minds out of the gutters!) 6 string jam that was really fun. Oh, and Pace was on drums. To coin a phrase from Barry, I think we crammed our low B's right down everyone's throat, more than a few times, LOL. Too bad it didn't get recorded, but there was just no way for them to record everything...

Otis, man I'm starting to worry about you! Ok it's official Backstage studios in Patterson New Jersey on Saturday MAY 1ST 12noon till 6pm. Accessible from either route 80 west or route 46 west. Google/mapquest please for accurate directions. New Yorkers it's approx less than 30 minutes out of the Lincoln tunnel traffic willing.
Lincoln tunnel to 495 to rt 3 west which blends into rt 46 west. It's after Montclair and right after a huge strip mall look for the smoke stacks. There's a banjo center at the top of the hill if you need strings, batteries or a good laugh. There's a very reasonable, clean Holiday Inn within two seconds of the place with a bar and breakfast nook. That's right.. pancakes and beer for breakfast(careful Otis) Gas stations etc. Plenty to do at night. Lost souls from Spector may also be there. C'mon guys let's show them what basses are supposed to sound, feel and look like. Now I have a favor to ask... help me to help you lol! Harold,Otis/Pace Danno and the rest, undoubtedly you have been on the Phil Jones website. I know that you must have looked at the bigger 24B loaded with all those Piranna speakers and thought whewweee! I wouldn't mind spanking that. Well here's your chance they will be there 18B and 24B etc. Here's the favor.. the 24B weighs in at 234lbs we are on the second floor and there's no elevator. I know it sounds like a math problem in a Polish joke book.(no offense intended,I'm Polish myself and own several joke books) We can get the cabs to the gig but we can't get them up the stairs without help. Who wants to sing the higher harmonies? We got time to decide and many hands make for light work. Just ask yourself when is the next time you will get to hear these beasts. Guys, I so very much look forward to seeing all of you at this gig and the renewal our friendships and the new friends we haven't made yet. Harold you gotta bring some more of those killer cookies!(Ah... see me before the gig ok?)

The showcase room? Perhaps we could all join in the labors. I mean I'd be pressed to make too many trips to the car and ferrying basses up those stairs and down the halls. I began going there after the old Broccoli Rabe studios in Fairfield changed over to Vinny and then to Patterson. My how quickly the time flys! And why is a rare thing in northern Joisey to have a rehearsal place on the GRound floor?

"And why is a rare thing in northern Joisey to have a rehearsal place on the GRound floor?"

Maybe it has to do with musicians being to cheap to pay for the first floor. ;-)

danno and keith I think it's because bass rattles the foundations. The building owners are afraid of building collaspe. Bass is the foundation of the band......blah,blah LOL!
Hay you guys in or what?
Spoke with Phil earlier. We may save our backs a bit. It might be 2X 12B's in tandem instead of one massive 24B. Might be a little more flexible maybe we can stack'em OR spread them in stereo to hear what that sounds like.Might have some recognizable names showing up as well. There is also going to be some fantastic deals so bring that lawn mowing money and break the kids piggy banks. C'mon tell your bass player friends let's pack the joint!!

Been in touch with Phil too. Not in regard to the gathering but rather help with a Briefcase amp. They are superb with customer relations and have taken care of the issue. Their gear is so unique and NICE! Lets continue with the great support for them. The Roadcase 800 (talked about in another thread) looks quite nice and I may even be tempted to get one of those. Sorry I can't make this one - have fun at the gathering! Regards from NC, Art

Danno, You absolutely have to bring that 7 String Fretless Beast of a Bass- I want to see that instrument, in person!!! Maybe your 10 String will be finished by then, too, eh?!!

Do we need a drummer? My drummer is down for coming, I believe...

Otis I like the idea of your drummer coming along with you. #1 Let me ask Phil and Mike if they would like to have a drummer. I'm thinking no because it would compete with hearing the amps/cabs at least for a while. It may open up later in the day.#2 If yes, then let me see if there is enough room for the drummer.I'll ask and get back to you. He is certainly welcome to join in the festivities bring a few cymbals/sticks and if the opportunity presents itself... Now remember, most of these cats can get around the bass really really well so if he is asked to play he is going to have to have [some] stamina. Ha!

Otis, I will do my best to make all happy with the selection. I have to see if I can fit 10 cases in the car. It will motivate me to do the adjusting and cleaning I sometimes forget to do. Remember to bring some air freshener. The showcase room can be funky after some clients, in a non musical way. So if the latest is done by May first I'll bring 4,5,6,7 and 10 stringers. I do have an 8 and 12 if non Alembics are ok. No series though..... sniff....

Barry, I understand and appreciate your efforts. My drummer is a Monster, so I think we'll be okay as far as stamina goes. He's no light weight, in any sense of the word, but he can be subtle if called upon to do so. He just bought a 2nd drum set, which I know he's itching to travel with, so him bringing drums wouldn't be a big deal.

Danno, I can't wait to see your arsenal, I'm sure it's going to be legendary, with a capital "L."

Peace All;)

Hope to see you soon;)

This sounds do-able!Backstage Studios in Patterson New Jersey 5/1/10 12:00pm-6:00pm.
I don't have a gig that night or the day before either. I live in Williamsport pa 3.5 hrs from my home Philadelphia! Just bring my bass? What time will Phil jones get there so I can help you guys if I make it. I really want to hear his cabinets, I use Bag End and have been contemplating using something different.

Chalieholmes c'mon down! Bring those Alembics. We appreciate any help. So I dunno 11ish might work. Maybe you and Otis/drummer could car pool. He's out in pennsyltuckey too. Frank I've come to learn that the event will be in the showcase room and a set of drums are already in there so I would discourage a second drum set for room size issues. These amps and cabs sound great Chalieholmes and there is going to be some great deals on brand new Phil Jones Bass gear so everyone bring some extra milk money.

Hey, Barry,

My drummer is appreciative of not having to even move his drums even more than he is fond of his new set, so his not loading and bringing them won't be a big deal, at all.

My drummer and I will be happy to help with load-in, as well.

Pace- looking forward to seeing you, again.

Chalie- looking forward to meeting you and checking out your Alembics.

Peace;)

Ya know guys this event is twofold, one a gathering to hear and purchase some exceptional bass gear and renew friendships. two it's a tutorial for those poor misguided souls who have made bass purchases other than Alembic.LOL This, at least in Barryworld, does not preclude any plans for a normal Alembic gathering say mid summer? Harold buddy what do you think? It'll give all those a second chance who couldn't make this gathering. I'm sure I can scare up some more gear for the event etc. A second chance for Harold's/Debbie's cookies!LOL! Please share your thoughts.

Hey guys, sounds like you are on to a great time. I certainly had a great time at the 2009 gathering. It was a blast.

Right now I am negotiating a job transfer that MAY mean that I would be moving out of the region before or on May 1.

If I still live in the Northeast, I will be there! As soon as I know, I shall let you know...but I may be looking at attending the next/first Alembic Gathering in GA!

wylie j/slawie you make your way across the pond and I'm sure we can get a couple of bretheren Alembicans together for a meet and greet.I remember there was an Australian store/owner who had ordered several Alembics awhile back featured on the site somewhere,a zebra top Excel comes to mind and a few others. Perhaps if any club member knows the whereabouts of the store they could hook you up with more brothers in your area. Mica most likely would remember the details.

Harold you have to come to the next formal Alembic gathering it just wouldn't be the same without you. We'll have to have some sort of right of passage ceremony where you relinqush your throne, swear in the new grand coordinator and give that person the sacred scrolls containing the tollhouse recipe. A 21 Alembic salute will follow after you walk under a gauntlet of crossed Alembic necks. To be greeted by that special someone who will put a Moody Alembic Strap around your neck like you where getting off the plane in Hawaii or something. BTW,bring some cookies with you(and see me before the ceremony).

For the Phil Jones Bass Event I made arrangements for a block of rooms at the closest hotel in the area. The Holiday Inn
1US Highway 46 West
Totowa,New Jersey,07512
(973)785-9000
If you mention you'd like to book a room under Phil Jones Bass. The hotel will give you the room for $99+tax They will also give you a free shuttle to the event.(All this without William Shatner's help!)You can ask for the General Manager, Mohan Maalepalli or the Director of Sales, Joseph Mazzo at ext# 620. There is a Guitar Center Directly across from the Hotel parking lot if you need strings or batteries etc. The hotel and Guitar Center are at the top of the hill,Backstage rehearsal studios is at the bottom of the hill approximately two minutes away. There's a good chance I'll be at the hotel that Friday night so if any body is coming in on Friday and they want to meet up please let me know. If anybody needs a ride from the airport any kind of help etc.let me know. We want everybody to have a great musical experience. We want everyone to be comfortable so they can play their best through some of the best bass equipment available. There will be food, refreshments and some giveaways. By Thursday or Friday of this week you can go directly to the Phil Jones Bass site and print out your invite to the event. Invitations presented at the door get the give aways c'mon you know how this works. Even if you can't come this time, go to the site and print one out they're suitable for framing ha!
Bring your ears, because your going to hear more string information than ever before. Bring your basses,so you can hear and make the difference. Bring your money, because there is going to be some very reasonable deals at the end of the show.Since the show is from 12noon to 6pm and we are expecting a good number of people, it might be reasonable for me to suggest going online to Phil Jones Bass site and look over the products you have interest in this way we all get more playing time in. For those of you just reading this... bring those Alembics! You will have a chance to show others what truly remarkable instruments we possess.

I've learned that there will be collection of: Bass Cubs, Brief Case, Suit Case, Flight Case, Super Flight Case, and Road Case Combos. 4B Neo,6B Neo,12B Neo(x2)Cabinets. 6T/9B Piranha and the awesome 24B Piranha Cabinet. Bass Buddy, 150watt,300 watt and 500 watt amp heads. Also Phil's Bass pre amp and a 4000 watt poweramp all of which fits in 2 rack spaces. Personally, I can't wait to hear what an Alembic bass through 4000 watts pushing 24 Piranha speakers sounds like. I'm sure it will be life altering. Naturally everything gets connected using Phil's state of the art cables. This has got to be the most product line in one place at one time. Let's hope the building holds together! Bring your bass playing friends, and bring those Alembics! Hope to see all of you on May 1st.

4000 Watts ? very interesting !
When ever I hear high power claims the first thing that I think is ; how is that measured. In other words 4000 Watts RMS @ 8 ohms or ???? and at what distortion rating ? 24 speakers , are 32 ohms per speaker or ? I wonder if they are all wired in parallel . I am interested how the power output of the amplifier is coupled to the load ( transformer or directly coupled) and how low the impedance can safely be set at.
I just woke up this morning but I already have lots of questions ! Good morning Alembic folks !

Sonicus, come to the gathering or go on line to Phil Jones Bass. I hear you on those types of questions. They still roll around in the back of my head as well. At some point several years ago, after many years of getting those questions answered, I just sort of relaxed and started listening to the end result. It's only after I hear or don't hear what it is I'm after,I then ask the price, then I may ask those kind of questions. I'm not a paid endorser,or a salesman, nor do I gain anything from my efforts at this event except to enjoy some of the best bass gear out there and get to hang with some truly gifted people. Phil Jones Bass gear regardless of price or spec really sounds amazing. Oh yeah... and if you decide to come, bring your Alembic with you.

Thanks for the invitation but I am here in California and will not be able to make it. I am not critical or question the specs , I know that with todays technology it can be done, I recently met a Bass player that sold me an Alembic F-1X and his F-2B that is a Phil Jones suit case user and he is very happy with it. He has a gig in the Casino circuit in California and is also doing lots of studio work.

My statements are inspired by my inquisitive mind and my need to know what makes it tick because I have always have been and still am a geek when it come to sound equipment.

No Pace, no Guitar gear this time out sorry. I did ask. I lent my bass cub to a jazz guitarist friend of mine and he's enjoying it so much he intends to purchase one to use with his jazz boxes. I should think the guitar cub with the appropriate voiced preamp and different porting etc. would make for a very accurate sounding guitar rig. Perhaps you'll hear enough in the bass cub to make a more informed decision. I look forward to seeing and hearing you.

UPDATE: Cabinet models 6T,9B and 24B have already been sold. To make up the difference, we will have two Piranha cabs, the 16B and a 8T to listen to.It still is 24 Piranha's and acoustically coupled should have the same net effect as the 24B with slightly better projection due to the angled 8T. Don't forget there will be two 12B neopower cabs as well. So we will have the privilege of A/B tests between 24 Neos and 24 Piranhas. Got a peek at the useful gifts, and yep their useful alright. Special bass royality will be in the house I've been sworn to hush up.

I know this is only my opinion, but I'll let it out anyways.
I purchased a Phil Jones Combo. I had family in the US and they brought it for me. We don't have them here in Brazil, so I had no way of trying it, so it was basically a shot in the dark. And I hit the bullseye.
I absolutely loved it. Hands down. I loved it so much, I'm selling ALL my Ampeg stuff to replace it with Phil Jones.

That said, if you get the chance, go try those amps. Honestly, I bet you will fell surprised. You might end up like me!
Man I wish I could go to this gathering....

Guys,

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I'm not going to be able to make it to the Phil Jones/Alembic Gathering, tomorrow. I wish I could, but I'm just not able.

Play some cool music for me, would you guys?

Hope to see you soon!

Peace All;)

I couldn't find the place..... My Garmin wouldn't accept West Paterson as a town, so I hit up every other Lackawana such and such before giving up and heading home.... I even tried looking for GC's close by, but ended up at what I'm guessing is their distribution warehouse in Hawthorne.... lol....

No feedback yet? Would love to hear how it went. Mike, what a drag you were close but couldn't locate it. I hope that others weren't in the same predicament.

Actually only three people out of the 25 I invited showed up. The event was a complete success. Many bass royalty showed up.Also, Harvey Citron was there with some of his excellent instruments including the Steve Swallow models. You couldn't pry the fretless from my hands! Ned Steinberger was there with one of the original snow shovels and his new upright. Fodera was in the house as well as MTD both cheap and expensive models and their Jazz Bass versions. All the players were excellent and everybody shared. Not one Alembic in the house. I was so busy setting up and going food shopping I didn't have time to go home and bring some back. Pace, sorry man. There will a second chance to hear these amps(but not on a full stage rather in a suite)at the Parsippany Amp show in June. I don't know how much gear will be at this show but I'll keep everyone posted. In my opinion the Piranha's are a very potent speaker, more brass more aggressive nature where as the NEOPOWER have a more overall balanced sound. Hearing 24 of each with serious wattage to push them was an experience I'll not soon forget. A video was shot and will be on the Phil Jones Bass site with in the next few days. In my opinion, as lovely as some of these other instruments were, just one Alembic would have been a beacon of sonic truth. The amps would have made the Alembics all the better. Oh well...

Barry, do you have some pictures of the Piranha gear and the full stage set-up?
I would love to see them... If you do, could you send a couple of them to the email on my profile? I would really appreciate it!

Thanks,

Greg

Yeah Art, it was a drag, but I blame my own stupidity.... I should've at least looked at the studio's set of directions. I got off of I-80 a couple of exits too soon, and the ridge to the south side of the highway blocks the view of the tell-tale smokestack. I was set to get there at 11:00 and help set up. I had to soundcheck Richard Marx back in town at 5:00, so I figured I had until 3:00.... But by 1:30 I still hadn't found the studio, so I decided to take the scenic route home.... I would've really have liked to meet Ned, I was actually thinking of the old Newburgh factory as I was crossing the Hudson.

We all make those, that's for sure. Hopefully the opportunity to meet up will come your way again soon Mike! Glad to hear it was a pleasant ride home.
